A 33-year long tradition in the Espanola community returns on Thursday, May 5, 2016 when the students and staff from A.B. Ellis Public School host their annual Terry Fox Run at 11:30 am. They have been collecting pledges for the past few weeks and will continue to gather donations leading up to the run.
“Students who raise $25 or more will enjoy an ice cream party together,” says Principal Michael Bellrose. “Individual classes are challenging other classes, all in the name of a cause that is close to our hearts.”
Principal Bellrose commended A.B. Ellis Terry Fox Run coordinators Edith Presseau, Gloria Lacasse, Rebecca Duhamel and Cathy McCutcheon along with students who have been working diligently to prepare for the run and collect funds.
“The A.B. Ellis Terry Fox Run has yielded $392,298.85 in research dollars over the past 33 years,” says Principal Bellrose. “This is truly an amazing accomplishment for the Espanola community.”
The run coordinators are pleased with the outpouring of support from the community and thank everyone for their continued assistance in helping A.B. Ellis reach its annual fundraising goal.
“This year, we hope to raise $5,000, but our ultimate goal is to make a difference and help realize Terry’s dream of finding a cure for cancer,” says Principal Bellrose.
The Terry Fox Run route in Espanola will take students, family and friends along Centre Street to Second Avenue, right on Second Avenue to Barber Street, and then back down Barber Street to Spruce Street and back to the school.
Everyone is welcome join the walkers along the route to cheer them on.
(Please note that Kindergarten students will walk a shorter distance.)
