Algonquin Road Public School supports Special Olympics

The Student Council at Algonquin Road Public School recently presented a cheque in the amount of $250 to Special Olympics Ontario.  The money, raised through a spirit day and bake sale, supported a local athlete who participated in the floor hockey tournament held the weekend of June 11 and 12, 2011.

“We are very happy that we could do our part in sponsoring an athlete who competed in this great event held in Sudbury,” said Student Council President Connor Gran.

Joe Cimino, the teacher advisor to the Algonquin Student Council, said he was extremely proud that the Student Executive ran with the sponsorship opportunity quickly in May after he presented the package from Special Olympics Ontario.

"Students, staff and parents all contributed to ensuring that we met our goal of sponsoring an athlete, and for their efforts I am very grateful,” said Bob Deeth, Principal of Algonquin Road Public School. “This contribution is one more example of how we at Algonquin Road Public School recognize that, even in a small way, we can contribute to the betterment of our greater community.”
