An Open House will be held at the new MacLeod Public School on Walford Road on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 (Earth Day) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
Current and prospective students and parents/guardians from JK to Grade 8 are invited to tour the school. Registrations will be accepted for September 2014 when Grade 3 to 8 students will join the JK to Grade 2 students who moved into the new school this spring.
Members of the community, including neighbours, are also welcome to attend the Open House. School Council and staff will lead the tours.
“We are so excited to showcase our new green school,” says Principal Michelle Walton. “The space is modern and bright, providing an exceptional learning and teaching environment for students and staff.”
At full occupancy, the new MacLeod Public School will accommodate some 600 students in approximately 60,000 square feet. The play area for children will be expanded to approximately 174,000 square feet. The school will also have a Best Start Hub in addition to the daycare that is currently on site.
The new MacLeod Public School provides the perfect environment to continue to foster a culture of conservation and encourage eco-friendly practices.
Green features include displacement ventilation and heat recovery systems, radiant floor heating, high insulation values in windows, walls and floors, and energy efficient plumbing and lighting fixtures. The roof will be constructed to allow for the installation of solar panels at a later date.
The main entrance of the school is located on Walford Road. A separate bus layby from Laval Street to Walford Road will greatly improve traffic flow in the area. There are also 93 parking spaces on site.
