April 24: Student Senate hosts Stand Up Speak Out Conference
Rainbow District School Board’s Student Senate will host a Stand Up Speak Out Conference on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Students from each secondary school will participate in the full-day event at the Au pied du rocher restaurant at Collège Boréal.
The goal of the conference is to give students an opportunity to network, build leadership skills and foster effective communications. Breakout sessions with collaborative activities will highlight various types of intelligence.
Ian Tyson of St. Thomas, Ontario will deliver the keynote address at 10 am. Ian is a proud father of two grown children and has been a professional speaker for over 35 years. In September 2009, Ian embarked on a special tour across Canada to raise money for charity and film a documentary. He drove from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia throughout the month – and performed 30 shows in 30 days – covering an impressive 10,000 kilometres.
With his entertaining style, Ian has inspired audiences across North America to realize their potential. His high-octane presentations, heart-warming storytelling, and meaningful life lessons keep audiences engaged, leaving them feeling uplifted and motivated.
Following the keynote address, students will participate in breakout sessions led by members of the community. The sessions will include kinesthetic intelligence, naturalistic intelligence, STEAM intelligence, inter/intra personal intelligence, and intelligence through the arts.
