August 26: MacLeod Public School to host Open House for new registrations

MacLeod Public School will host an Open House for new registrations on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 9 am to 5 pm. Parents/guardians are invited to register their children for Early Learning – Kindergarten to Grade 8 if they have not already done so. The new school, which will open for full occupancy this fall, is located at 23 Walford Road in Sudbury.

“This is an exciting time in the history of MacLeod Public School,” said Principal Michelle Walton. “We look forward to the start of a new school year in our new green school.” She added: “Students will enjoy an exceptional learning and teaching environment in a state-of-the-art facility.”

The new MacLeod Public School accommodates some 600 students in approximately 60,000 square feet. The play area for children has been expanded to approximately 174,000 square feet. The school also has a Best Start Hub as well as toddler and pre-school care.

Green features include displacement ventilation and heat recovery systems, radiant floor heating, high insulation values in windows, walls and floors, and energy efficient plumbing and lighting fixtures. The roof has been constructed to allow for the installation of solar panels at a later date.

The main entrance of the school is located on Walford Road. A separate bus layby from Laval Street to Walford Road will greatly improve traffic flow in the area. There are also 93 parking spaces on site.

The first day of school is Wednesday, September 3, 2014 for all area school boards, including Rainbow District School Board, the Sudbury Catholic District School Board, le Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario and le Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario. There will be no early dismissal on the first day of school.
