Board congratulates winners of the Technological Skills Competition

Rainbow District School Board hosted its tenth annual Technological Skills Competition at Cambrian College on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Over 120 secondary school students tested their skills in events such as carpentry, welding, TV/video editing, auto-service technology, 2D character animation, cabinet making, small-powered equipment and photography. Students were vying for an opportunity to compete in the provincial Skills Competition in Waterloo this May.

“The Technological Skills Competition was a tremendous success,” said Leo Leclair, Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Program Co-ordinator for Rainbow District School Board. “For the first time, we had female representation in each competitive category. This is a great accomplishment, as we continue to promote skilled trades as viable career options for both male and female students.”

“On behalf of Rainbow District School Board, I would like to congratulate all students who participated in this year’s competition,” said Board Chair Doreen Dewar. “We wish all students competing at the provincial level continued success.”

Winners and participants took home a number of wonderful prizes thanks to the support of community businesses and organizations, including the Sudbury & Manitoulin Workforce Planning Board, Sudbury Construction Association, the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), among many others.
