Canadian Parents for French (CPF) was founded in 1977 by mainly English-speaking parents from across the country. CPF values the French language as an integral part of Canada and is dedicated to creating, supporting and promoting opportunities for young people to learn and use French as a second language.

Millions of Canadian children are benefiting today from the rich and rewarding experience offered by French second-language (FSL) education. Learning more than one language is increasingly recognized as a lifelong gift, enhancing a child’s self-esteem and intellect
while opening new doors to study, travel and employment.

As a grassroots organization, CPF counts as members thousands of individuals and families working at the community level across Canada. CPF chapters work
closely with provincial and territorial branches supported by a national office.

CPF’s services and activities have expanded over the years to parallel the remarkable growth in FSL education. CPF fulfills many roles, all of them supporting the children, parents and educators who have made Canada a world model for second language
learning.

CPF provides parents with the information, materials and access to activities needed to support their children’s FSL education.

CPF compiles lists of French-language computer software, educational games and interesting Internet sites to help extend the learning experience outside the classroom.

CPF publishes the CPF Guide, a searchable database of all French-immersion and extended core French programs in Canadian school systems.

CPF operates websites that provide answers to frequently asked questions on FSL education.

CPF holds skills building workshops and training sessions for volunteers and for parents.

CPF produces and distributes brochures and an annual report on the state of French-Second-Language education in Canada.

CPF publishes informative national and provincial/territorial newsletters for members.

CPF is a source of the latest information and research on French-second-language education.
