Central Manitoulin captures top honours In Battle of the Books

Central Manitoulin Public School hosted its first Battle of the Books competition on April 16, 2015. Eight teams from Manitoulin Island participated with approximately 45 students.  The students read approximately 30 books in preparation for the competition and had to correctly answer clues for 18 books.

The Central Manitoulin Public School team captured first place and went on to participate in the Greater Sudbury Public Library Battle of the Books competition on April 23, 2015. The team competed against ten other schools from the Greater Sudbury area. The team was able to identify all 20 books and, once again, captured first place.

The Central Manitoulin Public School championship team members, coached by teacher Lisa Pennie, included, from left, Hailey McGillis-Prior, Zoe Redmond, Laura Orford, Aislinn Brown and Haylee Cress. “The team worked hard all year to read the books and memorize various facts, including titles and authors’ names,” said Central Manitoulin Public School Principal Tracey Chapman. “They were also able to recall characters, themes, and events to answer the clues correctly.” Congratulations!
