Chain of Caring: Markstay Public School hand delivers items to local food bank

For the second year, Markstay Public School is joining forces with the Markstay-Warren Fire Department to collect non-perishable food items in support of the Markstay Food Bank.

The food drive began on November 18, 2019 and will continue through December 12, 2019.

On Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, students, alongside members of the Fire Department, will canvass the local community for non-perishable food donations.

On Friday, December 13, 2019 at 10 am, students, staff, families and members of the Fire Department and Ontario Provincial Police will create a human chain of caring to hand deliver items to the food bank.

“This initiative is a fun and unique way to give back to the community,” says Markstay Public School Principal Nadia Berardelli. “We also invite local businesses and organizations to lock their doors for 20 minutes so they can join us in our chain of caring.”

She adds: “Everyone is welcome.”

The chain will measure approximately 500 meters, beginning at the school, 12 Pioneer Street East, and ending at the Markstay Food Bank, 15 Hagar Street. Members of the Ontario Provincial Police will be on site to ensure the safety of all participants.

“On behalf of staff and students, I extend a special thanks to all members of the Markstay-Warren Fire Department and the Ontario Provincial Police for their ongoing support of this creative venture,” says Principal Berardelli. “Together, we are helping to foster global citizens who take an active role in making our world a better place.”
