Chelmsford Valley District Composite School has received a $5,000 grant from Lowe’s to purchase new power and hand tools. The grant was provided by Skills Canada through the Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Program.
Rainbow District School Board Chair Doreen Dewar commended Lowe’s for supporting student success in the trades. “This grant will enhance Chelmsford Valley District Composite School’s Construction Technology program, exposing students to new and exciting learning opportunities with modern equipment,” she said.
“This is exciting news for Chelmsford Valley District Composite School,” added Principal Pamela Potvin who thanked Lowe’s for its generous contribution. “Putting theory into practice is the best way to learn. The ability to use safe, new and efficient tools will greatly enrich the learning experience that we offer our students and instill a sense of pride.”
Chelmsford Valley District Composite School offers three courses in this field. In the Construction Technology course, students design and build various projects using a variety of hand and power tools. Students also explore secondary and postsecondary pathways leading to careers in the industry.
Two Construction Engineering Technology courses focus on the development of knowledge and skills related to residential construction. Students gain hands-on experience using a variety of construction materials, processes, tools and equipment. They also learn how the Ontario Building Code and other regulations and standards apply to construction projects.
