Public School on Fielding Street in Sudbury.Churchill Public School participated in its third CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 3, 2010 – with impressive results. Over 110 staff and students took part in the event. Together, they raised $13,640 for breast cancer research.
“To date, Churchill Public School has raised over $36,000 for this wonderful cause, a tribute to the entire community who continues to support our efforts,” said Principal David Farrow, who was the third highest fundraiser for the CIBC Run for the Cure in Sudbury.
Principal Farrow challenged students to raise $10,001 this year. If they met the challenge, he indicated that he would have the school’s charger logo shaved into the back of his head and allow Olympic Gold Medalist in Women’s Hockey, Tessa Bonhomme, to shave off his eyebrows. Vice-Principal Mark Patterson agreed to have his hair dyed blue and yellow, the school colours. Both lived up to their promise at a special school assembly held on Monday, October 4th.
“We are proudly sporting new haircuts today thanks to the tremendous efforts of our students, staff and school community,” said Principal Farrow. Next week, Principal Farrow will take the challenge one step further. With more than $13,000 raised, he will shave his entire head. This will take place on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 1 pm at Churchill Public School on Fielding Street in Sudbury.
“I have participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure each year for the past 10 years,” said Principal Farrow. “I run in support of my friend Myra Gerow who is a two-time breast cancer survivor. Myra continues to be amazing and draws her strength by taking part in this event.” He added: “I thank everyone for their ongoing support on behalf all our mothers, wives, sisters and daughters.”
