Churchill Public School raises $15,190 for breast cancer research

True to his word, Churchill Public School Principal Dave Farrow allowed himself to be duct taped to the school’s gym wall after students collected $15,190 for this year’s Run for the Cure, surpassing their goal. The students and staff hosted several fundraising events throughout the year.  To date, Churchill Public School has raised over $71,911 for breast cancer research.

Churchill Public School participated in its fifth CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, September 29, 2012 – with impressive results. The school raised $15,190 for breast cancer research.

“To date, Churchill Public School has raised over $71,911 for this wonderful cause, a tribute to the entire community who continues to support our efforts,” said Principal David Farrow.

Principal Farrow challenged students to raise $13,602 this year, $1 more than last year’s goal. If they met the challenge, Principal Farrow agreed to be duct taped to the wall in the school’s gymnasium. The student in each homeroom who raised the most money would have the opportunity to “pie” his or her teacher.  At a special ceremony on Monday, October 1, 2012, Principal Farrow and the teachers lived up to their promise.

“We are proud of the tremendous efforts of our students, staff and school community,” said Principal Farrow. “Our students and staff hosted several events throughout the year in order to reach the goal.  The events included dances, dress-up days and the sale of hot dogs, suckers and ice cream sandwiches.  We would like to thank the Churchill community for helping us reach our goal, especially Coniston Valu-Mart and Home Hardware on Second Avenue.”

“I have participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure each year for the past 12 years,” said Principal Farrow. “I run in support of my dear friend Myra Gerow, who passed away on July 8, 2011 after her courageous battle with breast cancer. A few months later, I also lost my mother to cancer.  I still feel the profound sadness of the loss of these two influential women in my life.” He added: “I thank everyone for their ongoing support on behalf of all our mothers, wives, sisters and daughters.”
