Churchill Public School’s walk for Sudbury Maison Vale Hospice a success

Students and staff at Churchill Public School know the meaning of giving.  Together, they raised $9,570 for the Sudbury Maison Vale Hospice through the Churchill Walk for the Hospice on Friday, May 4th.  Pledges were collected throughout the community.

“We are so proud of our staff and students for their tremendous effort in raising money for the Hospice,” said Dave Farrow, Principal of Churchill Public School.  “Our students are learning how important it is to help out in our community.  They see that by giving, they can bring happiness to others and, in turn, themselves.”

The decision to donate to the Hospice began when a parent on the Churchill School Council introduced the students to the Sudbury Maison Vale Hospice. May is now Churchill Public School’s Hospice Fundraising Month.

Churchill’s Student Parliament has been hosting several events as part of the fundraiser including dress-up days, hot dog sales, dances, a bake sale, and a tropical spaghetti dinner.

A cheque will be presented to the Hospice on Thursday, May 17th at 6 pm during the spaghetti dinner at Churchill Public School.

“We would like to thank Greater Sudbury Fire Services and Greater Sudbury Police Services for their assistance with the walk,” added Principal Farrow.  “We would also like to extend our thanks to MP Glenn Thibeault, former Mayor John Rodriguez and Trustee Dena Morrison for their support during the walk.”

“The Sudbury Maison Vale Hospice motto sums up what we are all trying to accomplish through our joint fundraising effort,” said Principal Farrow. “For what matters at the end of life is not so much to add days to life, but to add life to the remaining days.”
