What’s happening in Rainbow Schools?

Classes cancelled for JK to Grade 12 on Friday, February 21, 2020

Rainbow District School Board’s elementary teachers and designated early childhood educators represented by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and secondary teachers and support staff represented by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) will engage in a full withdrawal of services on Friday, February 21, 2020 in response to negotiations at the provincial level.

All classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island will be cancelled for the day. Transportation is also cancelled.

This notice includes classes at Jean Hanson Public School, the Children’s Treatment Centre (CTC), the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Program (CAMHP), the Applied Behaviour Analysis Program (ABA) at the Ruth MacMillan Centre, the Northern Support Initiative (NSI) Program at the Ruth MacMillan Centre, and the Simulated Healthy Independent Living Opportunities Program (SHILO) on Gill Street.

It also includes Barrydowne College, the N’Swakamok Native Alternative School, Mishko-Ode-Wendam at the Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre, O’Connor Park and Restart programs at the Centre for Education, the Attendance Centre and the Adult Day School.

In addition, extra-curricular activities, field trips, school events and Co-operative Education placements for secondary students are cancelled for the day.

Dual Credits continue at Cambrian College.

Schools remain open for childcare, before and after school programs, and community use.

It is important that parents/guardians make alternative arrangements for the care of their children. Parents/guardians will not be able to send their children to school on Friday, February 21, 2020.
