Confederation’s Evolutionary Band invited to live taping of Cover Me Canada

When Cover Me Canada airs on CBC Television on Sunday, November 6th, there will be a special connection to our community. Members of Confederation Secondary School’s Evolutionary Band and crew will be in the studio. The show will broadcast live at 9 pm.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students. Evolutionary Band and crew will be introduced by the show’s MC during the live program and they will be seen across Canada as the cameras pan them in their seats in the audience,” said Pablo Gil-Alfau, Principal of Confederation Secondary School.

He added: “Not only will they experience the thrill of being part of a live studio audience, they will also meet the judges and contestants after the show. There is even a possibility that CBC may air a portion of a recording of the band taped at the Glenn Gould Studio last spring.”

As part of Cover Me Canada, CBC Television has partnered with MusiCounts to bring awareness to the importance of music education. MusiCounts’ mission is to ensure that children in Canada, regardless of socio-economic circumstances and cultural background, have access to a comprehensive music program through their school.

“The producer of Cover Me Canada contacted the Manager of MusiCounts to discuss a band who might represent the organization on their next show,” said Evolutionary Director Norm McIntosh. “Of the hundreds of school bands across Canada, Mike Hurley recommended Evolutionary. Now we’re heading to the CBC Broadcast Studio in Toronto. How exciting is that!”

“I think that Norm’s Evolutionary rock group exemplifies what Cover Me Canada is all about and puts a spotlight on what can be accomplished when music programs receive the funding they truly need,” said Mike Hurley, Manager of MusiCounts. “We are delighted that they have accepted our invitation.”

Cover Me Canada, which premiered on CBC in September, has been hailed as “the biggest, loudest, most entertaining, star-studded musical competition show on television.” Each week, the best undiscovered bands in the country battle it out to see who is the greatest new musical act in Canada.

In order to win the ultimate prize, the bands have to cover the most iconic chart-topping songs from some of the greatest Canadian artists of all time and make them their own. The winner will receive a $100,000 cash prize, a recording contract for their first original single to be released by Universal Music Canada, as well as featured airplay of their single on CBC Radio 2.
