Confederation’s Evolutionary Band heading to Hamilton for the Juno Awards

Confederation Secondary School’s Evolutionary Band is heading to Hamilton this weekend for the Juno Awards. Members of the band and crew will be in the audience for the live broadcast on CTV on Sunday, March 15, 2015.

Music Director Norm McIntosh spearheaded this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. As the first recipient of the MusicCounts Teacher of the Year Juno Award in 2005, he was invited to attend the ceremony for the 10th anniversary tribute to past recipients.

“When the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) contacted me, I said I would attend if the band and crew could join me,” he said. “I received an email informing me that there were 39 complimentary tickets at the box office and that arrangements have also been made for the students to see the red carpet entourage.”

“When I informed the band and crew of their good fortunes, they were stunned and stoked,” he said. “Students responded with cheers and tears… of joy. They’re ecstatic!”

Evolutionary launches its 35th season this Friday, March 13, 2015 with a concert at Confederation Secondary School at noon. They will perform songs by Led Zeppelin, Nickelback, Journey, Van Halen, Shinedown, Metallica and more to 600 elementary students from the Greater Sudbury area.

Evolutionary is a 24-piece rock band that includes three vocalists, a nine-piece rhythm section and a 14-piece rock horn section supported by a 10-member stage crew. As Action Sudbury’s No Drinking and Driving Band, Evolutionary has earned a solid reputation for its dynamic performances.

The band tours from March until June, performing in front of more than 8,000 students per year. Their shows include a high-energy, choreographed presentation with an exciting light display including lasers, strobes, smoke machines and intelligent lighting.
