Congratulations to 2012 Concours de français award recipients

Two students from Rainbow Schools captured top honours at the 2012 Concours de français. Clare Lindon of Lockerby Composite School and Katrina Tisdale of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School won tuition to Laurentian University for one year.

Students received a number of awards at the competition held on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Alphonse Raymond Auditorium. The event was sponsored by Laurentian University, Rainbow District School Board, the Sudbury Catholic District School Board, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, the Ontario Modern Language Teachers’ Association, the Sudbury and District Modern Language Teachers’ Association, Collège Boréal, the Ontario Teachers’ Federation and Centre FORA.

Norm Blaseg, Director of Education for Rainbow District School Board, congratulated students for their outstanding achievement. "The impressive results from Rainbow Schools are a tribute to our French Immersion and Core French programs," he said. "We are proud of our students’ efforts and commend teachers for their continued dedication."

The Concours de français serves to promote the French language and encourages students to continue studying French at the post-secondary level. The Concours assesses written and oral French as well as listening and reading skills.

A team of teachers administers a variety of tasks, which consists of a series of
challenges that test French proficiency in reading, writing and listening.  For the oral component, students are required to speak in front of a panel of judges.
