Cousin Vinny’s invites Pinecrest Public School rock bands to their stage

Pinecrest Public School rock bands Short Circuit and Overload have been busy rehearsing for a live performance at Cousin Vinny’s on Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 8 pm to 10 pm. The performance will showcase the talent of students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 and serve as a fundraiser for the school.

“This is a great opportunity for dedicated young students to display their talent in the Valley East community as well as raise funds for the Pinecrest music program,” said Chris Vitiello, co-owner of Vinny’s. “We are delighted to feature both bands on our stage.”

Vinny’s will host a spaghetti dinner the night of the performance at a cost of $15.  Band members will be selling tickets to family and friends.  Part of the proceeds will go towards the repair of musical instruments and the purchase of new equipment.

“It is very generous on Vinny’s part to help raise funds for our music program as well as provide our students with the opportunity to showcase the great things happening here at Pinecrest,” says Principal Randy Wallingford. “Vinny’s continues to play a major role in building community pride in the Valley and we thank them for their support.”

Since September, Short Circuit and Overload have been rehearsing daily during recess, after school and on weekends under the guidance of music teacher Keenan Comartin and teacher Scott Zoldy. “I am so proud of their achievement in music so far,” says Keenan Comartin.  “They have really surpassed all of my expectations.”

Adds Scott Zoldy: “Performing in a public venue such as Vinny’s is unprecedented for intermediate students. I am so impressed with the progress each student has made since the fall and the overall sound of the bands. The audience can expect an incredible performance.”

The bands made their public debut on April 8th at the Capreol Youth Center where Sue Lepki and Jennifer Daciuk were extremely impressed with the quality of the sound. This resulted in an invitation to perform an outdoor concert at the Roundhouse Bar and Grill in Capreol on Saturday, July 30th, 2011 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

Norm McIntosh, music director of Confederation Secondary School’s Evolutionary Band, recently had the opportunity to see both bands perform.  “To say I was impressed is an understatement,” he says. “This is the best talent I have seen come out of Pinecrest in over a decade. The audience at Vinny’s will be thoroughly entertained.”
