Crown in Canada initiative at Princess Anne Public School

Four students from Princess Anne Public School were recognized for their exemplary work in social studies related to The Crown in Canada initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Kevin McCormick, President and Vice-Chancellor of Huntington University. For their outstanding efforts, Dr. McCormick surprised students with an original coin from the Queen’s Coronation year, as well as a copy of the book A Crown of Maples: Constitutional Monarchy in Canada. "Students are grateful to have been recognized by Dr. McCormick and are extremely proud to have been included in The Crown in Canada Initiative,“ says Princess Anne Public School teacher Sean Pretty. “Our students welcomed the opportunity to learn about the Monarchy and the role of the Crown in Canada." Dr. Kevin McCormick, left, President and Vice-Chancellor of Huntington University and leader of The Crown in Canada initiative, presented Princess Anne Public School with two framed special edition magazines for the school’s efforts in highlighting the Monarchy’s involvement with Canada. The first, dated July 1, 1939, shows King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II returning from an official visit to Canada, prior to the outbreak of World War II.  The second, dated August 22, 1959, highlights Queen Elizabeth II’s first official visit to Canada as the Queen. The magazines will be displayed at the school.
