Educational Assistant honoured by the Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury

A long-time Educational Assistant with Rainbow District School Board has been honoured locally for her work with students. Lise Orsini was among the recipients of this year’s Outstanding Educator Award from the Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury (LDAS). The award was presented during a virtual celebration held on April 18, 2024.

The LDAS Outstanding Educator Award recognizes an exceptional educator committed to evidenced-based practices, a continuous pursuit of learning, and dedicated efforts to support all students, particularly those with learning disabilities.

Their genuine passion for inclusivity and equity creates an environment where every learner can thrive. Notably, this person exemplifies a growth mindset through active engagement in professional development, and contributing to the improvement of our educational community.

“On behalf of Rainbow District School Board, I would like to congratulate Lise Orsini on this important recognition,” said Director of Education Bruce Bourget. “Her support is appreciated by the students in her care, the staff who work with her, and the community that we serve. Our Educational Assistants are highly valued members of our schools and Lise Orsini continues to be a wonderful role model.”

Lise Orsini has been an Educational Assistant in Rainbow Schools since 1994. She has worked with students in many schools including Chelmsford Public School, Jessie Hamilton Public School, Robert Jack Public School, Redwood Acres Public School, Northeastern Elementary School, and, currently, R.H. Murray Public School. Over the years, she has supported students in a variety of programs.

Students have high praise for Lise Orsini: “Thank you, Mrs. Orsini, for helping me with my work sometimes.” “Thanks for being supportive in everything that we need help with.” “Thanks for guiding me in making good choices every day.” “Mrs. Orsini, thanks for making R.H. Murray a good place to be.”

“Lise Orsini has been a fierce advocate for all students,” said Danielle Williamson, Principal of Special Education Programs and Services. “She puts the needs of students first and works hard to develop authentic relationships with them. She ensures that she understands each student’s needs and works to provide support and programming that is individualized to each student.”

“Throughout her vast experience, Lise Orsini has always been an advocate for students with learning disabilities,” added Principal Williamson. “She has worked on the frontlines delivering intervention and supporting students in understanding and using the accommodations provided in their Individual Education Plans (IEPs). She has made teaching self-advocacy skills a priority.”

In presenting the award to Lise Orsini on behalf of LDAS, Principal Williamson highlighted the significant impact Lise Orsini has had on students over the years. “You always made sure you took the time to get to know your students and make sure that you were supporting them in the way they needed to be supported,” she said. “I want to thank you for the impact that you have made in the lives of so many Rainbow students.”

For her part, Lise Orisini said she enjoys working with the “amazing students” in Rainbow District School Board “to help meet their needs and watch them succeed day-by-day.” It has been rewarding for her to contribute to students’ becoming successful adults within their communities. She values her role in helping students “become the citizens they deserve to become.”
