What’s happening in Rainbow Schools?
Elementary bands capture top honours at the national level
Two Rainbow District School Board elementary schools competed at MusicFest Canada and came home with top honours.
The Lively District Secondary School Grade 7 Band won Gold. This group consists of 40 students in their first year of playing. The band was formed last November.
The Lively District Secondary School Grade 8 Band won Silver. This group consists of 57 students in their second year of playing. Both bands are under the leadership of teacher Cory Ross.
The outstanding achievement award for the Lively Grade 7 Band went to Keegan Beaulieu for drums and percussion.
The outstanding achievement award for the Lively Grade 8 Band went to Cassie Walli for tenor saxophone.
The Pinecrest Public School Concert Band won Silver. This is a group of students in Grades 6, 7 and 8. The band consists of 23 members in their first year of playing. They were formed last fall. The band is directed by teacher Cathy Comartin.
Dale Barrett of Pinecrest Public School won an outstanding achievement award. He plays the trombone.
“We are very proud of our talented musicians and their teachers,” said Director of Education Norm Blaseg. “Congratulations on your impressive achievement at the national level.”
MusicFest Canada was held in Toronto on May 15, 2015.
