Christmas came early for the music students at Confederation Secondary School this week. They received a brand new autographed Godin guitar from Corey Diabo, guitar player for Jonas and the Massive Attraction. In an accompanying note, the musician said: “Here’s a brand new guitar for y’all to make some big noise with!”
Corey Diabo and his long-time friend, Juno-nominated Jonas Tomalty, the front man for the Massive Attraction, were first introduced to the school’s music students when they attended the Evolutionary Band Mother’s Day concert last May.
At the time, they were so impressed with the band that they suggested that they would like to perform a concert in Sudbury and have Evolutionary open for them. Since then, Todd Littlefield, manager for Jonas and The Massive Attraction, has maintained communication with Confederation’s music teacher, Norm McIntosh, who was delighted with the special surprise of a new guitar for his students.
Jonas and The Massive Attraction have just finished their second European tour this year. Originating from Montreal, the Canadian rockers are best known for the tune, “Big Slice”, which hit the Top Ten nationally last year.
Their new DVD, ‘Live in Germany at Rockpalast’, is scheduled to be released on November 20, 2012. Through their commanding live performance and blue collar work ethic, the band is following in the footsteps of such great Montreal acts as Arcade Fire, Simple Plan, Sam Roberts and Beast, who have gone on to national and international success.
In the meantime, Evolutionary’s band members are trying out their new guitar and deciding which songs they’ll be playing with it. “It’s a fantastic sounding guitar,” said Evolutionary guitar player, Jacob Starling. “The rhythm section as a whole is super grateful for what Corey has done for us.”
And that’s not the end of Corey and Jonas’ generosity. “Jonas is now recording in LA, but upon his return to Montreal, he has promised to send a second guitar for Evolutionary,” said Norm McIntosh. “We are so fortunate to receive such wonderful support from professional musicians. We are most grateful to Jonas and The Massive Attraction. We look forward to making some big noise with our brand new guitar!”
