Explorer Adam Shoalts launches EcoSummit for Rainbow Schools on May 4th
Rainbow District School Board will host the Third Annual EcoSummit on Monday, May 4, 2026 from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm in the Laurentian University Fraser Auditorium. This initiative is part of the Environmental Education Committee’s ongoing efforts to nurture citizens who care about the world in which they live. This year’s theme is “Our Land, Our Forests, Our Life”.
Eco-leaders from Grades 6 to 12 in Rainbow Schools will attend the green symposium to learn about environmental responsibility, land sustainability, and how they can take action in their respective school communities.
“Environmental education and sustainability is a priority for Rainbow District School Board,” says Director of Education Bruce Bourget. “At the EcoSummit, students will gain more knowledge and practices to care for the planet at school, at home and within their communities.”
During the event, students will hear an in-person address from keynote speaker, professional explorer and national bestselling author Adam Shoalts about his story of exploration and inspiration.
Students will also have the opportunity to take part in two land-based themed workshops focused on varied topics, including Mindfulness Yoga; Sudbury Regreening; Tree Paintings; Invertebrate Identification; Food Forests; Field to Table – Living with the Land; Seed Bomb Making; Restoration Trail, Living with Lake Centre; Battle Stormwater Pollutants Challenge; Discover the Story of Junction Creek; Doran Planetarium – Life, a Cosmic View; Nature’s Mysteries and Puzzles; and Walking and Talking with Creation.
