Festive Events in Rainbow Schools 2010

A.B. Ellis Public School
On Friday, December 10, the students at A. B. Ellis Public School will enjoy a pancake breakfast and a special visit from jolly old Saint Nicholas/

On Monday, December 20th, A.B. Ellis Public School will host its Christmas concert at 6:30 pm. A dress rehearsal will take place at 1:45 pm on that day.  Parents, family and community members are welcome to attend either performance. Students from all grades and the school’s Concert Band will perform.  A donation of a non-perishable item for the local food bank would be appreciated.  Please note:  in the event of inclement weather, these events will take place on Tuesday, December 21st.

Adamsdale Public School
Adamsdale Public School will present a concert entitled “A Fireside Christmas” on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 6 pm.  The students from JK to Grade 6 will perform a variety of poems, short stories and songs to celebrate the holiday season.  A dress rehearsal will take place on the same day at 12 pm.  Parents and families are welcome for both performances. 

Holiday sing-a-longs will also take place with Dennis Batman providing piano accompaniment.  All are welcome to join the school on Wednesday, December 8, Tuesday, December 14 and Tuesday, December 21, from 2:20 pm to 2:50 pm.

Alexander Public School
Alexander Public School will celebrate the holiday season on Wednesday, December 15, 2010. The primary grades will perform a concert from 4 pm to 5 pm followed by the junior and intermediate grades from 6 pm to 7 pm. There will be a dress rehearsal at 1:30 pm for those who are able to attend.

The Alexander Gators will continue to Pay It Forward throughout December by donating Christmas baskets to families in need in the community.  Donations, including wrapped gifts, money, or non-perishable food items, will be collected at the Christmas concert.

Algonquin Road Public School
Algonquin Road Public School will celebrate the holiday season with a variety of festive events.  Students from JK to Grade 5 will present Christmas concerts on Thursday, December 16, 2010 from 9:15 am to 10:15 am with a repeat performance from 2 pm to 3 pm. Everyone is welcome!

Students in Grades 6 to 8 will host a Christmas potluck luncheon on Tuesday, December 14, from 11:30 am to 1 pm.  Parents and guardians are invited to join their children for lunch in celebration of the upcoming holiday season.

The Algonquin Choir will perform at various venues throughout the week.

Assiginack Public School
During the week of December 6 to 10, Assiginack Public School will collect canned food items and winter coats.  Those wishing to donate may bring the items to the school during that week.

Students at Assiginack Public School will participate in a Christmas concert on Monday, December 20, 2010 at 7 pm.  The Grade 7/8 class will host a bake sale as well as a Touch and Take Table. A Silver Collection will be in place to support student activities.  Students will also share in the joy of the Christmas spirit when Santa visits the school.

Carl A. Nesbitt Public School
The talented students of Carl A. Nesbitt Public School will perform a bilingual musical production entitled "North Pole Exposure” the secrets about what really happens at the North Pole, on Tuesday, December 21. Performances will take place at 9 am and 12 pm. Also, a sing-a-long will take place on Wednesday, December 22, at 12 pm. The concert band and choir will also perform at this time. Tickets for the Christmas basket raffle will be available until the concert.  Don’t forget to get your tickets!

On Friday, December 3, Carl A. Nesbitt Public School hosted the Q92 Toy Drive from 7 am to 9 am.  Students were invited to donate a new toy for families in Greater Sudbury to make their holiday special.

Chelmsford Public School
The Chelmsford Public School Council hosted its first annual Milk and Cookies with Santa event on Saturday, December 4, from 10 am to 2 pm.  Pictures with Santa (ready for gifting), writing letters to Santa, gingerbread cookie decorating, a bake sale, and candy kabobs were all part of the fun.

The Chelmsford Public School Choir performed on the CTV Christmas Telethon on Saturday, December 4, 2010. All silver donations and Spirit Hat Day proceeds were donated to the Telethon.

Non-perishable food items will be accepted throughout December and are greatly appreciated.  Chelmsford Public School kindly donates to the Chelmsford Friendship House Food Bank/La Maison d’Amitié, Kids Helping Kids, and the Sudbury Food Bank. Everyone is welcome to donate.

On Monday, December 20, at 9:45 am, the Chelmsford Public School Choir will share their voices with the community as they perform at St. Joseph’s Villa.  They will then head to the Place Bonaventure Mall at 1:45 pm to continue to spread Christmas cheer.

Students will also celebrate the holiday season with their school concerts at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 and Wednesday, December 15, 2010.  The concerts are open to the school community.

Central Manitoulin Public School
Students from Grades 3 to 8 will attend Alice in Wonderland at the Sudbury Theatre Centre on Thursday, December 16, 2010.

The school will host its annual Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 14 at 6:30 pm.  A non-perishable food item for the Manitoulin Family Resources’ Christmas Basket Campaign would be appreciated.

On Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 9:30 am, the entire school will participate in a Christmas sing-a-long in the gym.  Everyone is welcome to join in.

Churchill Public School
Churchill will host its Annual Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 11 am and 6 pm.  It promises to be an eclectic variety of seasonal favourites.

Cyril Varney Public School
Cyril Varney Public School will celebrate "A Musical Christmas" on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in the school auditorium.  Students from JK to Grade 6 will present a variety of musical productions celebrating the holiday season. Parents and guests are welcome to attend either the afternoon performance at 12 pm or the evening performance at 5:30 pm. In order to support the Kids Helping Kids Christmas Food Drive Campaign, please bring a non-perishable food item for admission to the festivities. Your support of Cyril Varney Public School and the Sudbury Food Bank is much appreciated.

Copper Cliff Public School
Two classes from Copper Cliff Public School will visit Copper Cliff Manor to sing Christmas songs and play chimes for and with the seniors on Thursday, December 16th from 2 pm to 2:30 pm.

Copper Cliff Public School will host its annual concert "Best on the Box" on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 6:30 pm in the school gym.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  There is no admission, but a non-perishable food item for the Sudbury Food Bank would be appreciated.  At the concert, the Copper Cliff Public School Hand Chime Choir, school band, and each class will perform.

Charles C. McLean Public School
C.C. McLean’s Grade 4 and 5/6 classes participated in the Manitoulin Concert at Manitoulin Secondary School on Thursday, December 2, 2010.

On Wednesday, December 22, friends and families are invited to attend C.C. McLean’s Carol Sing.  This tradition begins at 9 am in the school gym.  Students, staff and families will celebrate the Christmas season in song.

C.R. Judd Public School
On Monday, November 29, 35 students from C.R. Judd Public School collected $262 by caroling throughout the community to raise funds for this year’s CTV Christmas Telethon.
 
On Tuesday, December 14, C.R. Judd Public School will host the school community for its annual Christmas Concert.  A matinée will take place at 1:30 pm and an evening performance at 6:30 pm.  Draws will be made for a variety of gift baskets assembled by students and members of the School Council.  All proceeds will be given to the Capreol Bread and Roses Foodbank.

On Wednesday, December 15, C.R. Judd’s School Choir will perform live on EZ Rock radio in Sudbury. 


Ernie Checkeris Public School
Students at Ernie Checkeris Public School from JK to Grade 3 will sing en français for the Christmas season.  Parents and guests are welcome to attend the Checkeris Winter Wonderland Concert on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 1:45 pm, with a second performance at 6 pm.  The audience will be rewarded for with a special sing-a-long at the end, involving audience participation.  On Wednesday, December 22, a "jolly, bearded" special guest will visit Ernie Checkeris to hear students’ season wishes.

Gatchell School
Gatchell School will host a Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 21 at 12:45 pm. Family and friends are invited to attend. After the concert, guests will be treated to a delightful assortment of baked goods prepared by the students.

Lansdowne Public School
Everyone at Lansdowne Public School will celebrate the holiday season with two concerts taking place on Monday, December 20, 2010 and Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Both concerts will take place from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm and will feature students from the Early Learning Program and Grade 4 to Grade 8.  Parents/guardians are welcome. Students will also participate in a Mitten and Canned Food Drive for the Sudbury Food Bank. Students will collect mittens and non-perishable goods until December 17, 2010.

Larchwood Public School
Larchwood Public School opened its doors to all members of the public for its annual "Christmas Tea" on Sunday, December 5.

All members of the school community participated in the local Knights of Columbus Food Drive until Wednesday, December 1. During the school Christmas concerts on Tuesday, December 14, at 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm, donations of non-perishable items for the local Lion’s Club food drive will be accepted. Everyone is welcome to attend these “Rocking Christmas” concerts.

The Larchwood Public School Choir will also perform at both the St. John’s Carolfest at St. John’s Church in Levack at 6:30 pm on Sunday, December 12 and the Sounds of Christmas Concert to be held at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Levack at 6:30 pm on Thursday, December 16.

Friends and family are invited to join the school for traditional singing of holiday carols each day from Monday, December 20 to Wednesday, December 22. Please contact the school for details and a schedule.

Levack Public School
Primary students will perform a Christmas concert for parents at 1:30 pm on Thursday, December 16, 2010.  Admission to the concert is a non-perishable food item.

Little Current Public School
On Friday, December 10 at 11:45 am Skate Canada Little Current will present a Christmas Theme performance for the primary division students at the NEMI Recreational Centre.  Hot chocolate and popcorn will be served to the students for the performance. 

Little Current Public School will host its annual Candy Cane Festival on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.  This is a wonderful event that brings both the school and community together in the spirit of the season.  There are many activities and games that families can enjoy together, including a cake walk, pictures with Santa and the famous themed basket raffles. 

On Wednesday, December 22, the Glee Club will lead the school in Christmas carols in the gymnasium at 11:30 am.  Parents, guardians and community members are welcome to join in the fun.

Long Lake Public School
The Long Lake community will celebrate the festive season on Monday, December 20, 2010 from 6 pm to 7 pm with an evening complete with a bonfire, hot chocolate and homemade cookies.

MacLeod Public School
On Wednesday, December 8th, students in the drumming club, choir and band performed a holiday concert for parents. On Tuesday, December 14th, students, parents and teachers from MacLeod Public School will take part in an evening of carolling. On Monday, December 20th and Tuesday, December 21st, primary students will perform in the school’s holiday concerts. Students in all grades and community members throughout the MacLeod area have been collecting food for the canned food drive as part of the school’s pay it forward program. Also, food bank Christmas cards have been for sale to help those in need throughout the community.

Markstay Public School
On Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 1 pm, Markstay Public School will celebrate the holiday season with a multicultural-themed concert "Christmas Around the World.”  Family and friends are invited.  The Grade 8 class will host a bake and craft sale as well as a silent cake auction at the concert.  Throughout December, the school will collect non-perishable food items for the Markstay-Warren Food Bank. In addition, the school has partnered with a community organization and will be supporting local families with donations of food, clothes and toys.

Monetville Public School
Students and parent volunteers have packed 37 boxes full of toys, school supplies, clothing and hygiene products for children in a variety of countries around the world as part of Operation Christmas Child.  In addition, students at Monetville Public School will collect non-perishable food items for the French River Food Drive until December 13. Everyone is welcome to attend Monetville’s annual Christmas Concert scheduled for Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 11:45 am.

Northeastern Elementary School
Northeastern Elementary School staff and students, along with School Council, will adopt two families during the holiday season by providing them with gifts and a meal.  All students are also actively involved in the canned food drive with the goal of collecting 10,001 cans for the Food Bank.  Students in the primary and junior classes will perform a Holiday Concert entitled "The Spirit of Giving."  The junior classes will participate in a sing-along with their parents and guardians on Friday, December 17.  Also on December 17, the Northeastern Choir will perform on EZ Rock at 8:30 am.

Princess Anne Public School

Princess Anne Public School will present "Twas One Crazy Night Before Christmas".  Students from JK to Grade 6 will perform a variety of familiar and new songs, while a group of students from Grades 4, 5, and 6 act out a series of scenes in between each song. The performance will take place on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 1 pm in the upper hall of the Caruso Club. 

Queen Elizabeth II Public School
Queen Elizabeth II Public School will participate in the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive as students give back to the community.  The school’s annual Christmas Bazaar was held on Friday, December 3, 2010. Students will entertain their families and guests at a Winter Concert on Friday, December 17 at 1:45 pm.  All students will be treated to a turkey lunch on Monday, December 20, that will be prepared by staff and community volunteers. 

Redwood Acres Public School
Redwood Acres Public School launched its Kids Helping Kids Food Drive on Friday, November 26, with a school assembly. 

The school’s annual Christmas Concert will be presented in the gym at 11:30 am on Monday, December 20, and Tuesday, December 21.  This year’s musical is entitled "Frosty’s First Adventure" and features all students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5. The week will wrap up with a Carol Sing in the gym on Wednesday, December 22, beginning at 9 am.  Families, friends and community members are welcome to join in the festivities.

R.L. Beattie Public School
The Beattie Barons invite parents to attend the JK to Grade 8 holiday concert Sous les étoiles étincelantes/ Under the Shining Stars on Wednesday, December 15 at 9:30 am or 1:30 pm.  Despite his tremendously busy schedule, Santa has made arrangements to visit JK to Grade 2 students on Monday, December 20.  During December, student council will collect canned goods for this year’s Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive.  Once again, school staff has decided to support the Sudbury Food Bank Christmas Gift Card Program.  They kindly ask parents to purchase gift cards in lieu of presents if they wish to do so.  It is R.L. Beattie Public School’s way of paying it forward.

R.H. Murray Public School
R.H. Murray Public School will host a Christmas concert on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 1 pm and 6 pm.  Admission is a donation of a canned food item or any dry good.  Warm apple cider will be served following the performance. Everyone is welcome.  R.H. Murray’s choir will also perform at the Annual Walden Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 pm on Saturday, December 11, at the Anderson Farm and Museum.


S. Geiger Public School
The community is invited to S. Geiger Public School’s annual Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 1 pm.  There will be a bake sale and door prizes available.  The school will be collecting canned food for the local food bank. 

Students will also have the opportunity to skate at the Massey Arena on Wednesday, December 22.

Valley View Public School
The school will host two Christmas Concerts on Tuesday, December 21 at 9:30 am and 1 pm for students in Grades 1 to 8.  On Friday, December 17, students will participate in a Christmas Carousel with the JK students at 1:30 pm and SK students at 11:15 am. The entire Valley View community is invited to attend.

Walden Public School
Primary Concert
Blue water, white sand, green palms waving in a gentle breeze under a big yellow sun! Sound good?  Not if you are stranded in the South Pacific only days before Christmas! Children from around the world try to lift their Christmas spirits with a beach party and signal rescue planes. Join ‘The Castaways’ on Monday, December 20, for a matinée at 11:30 am and an evening performance at 6:30 pm in the gym. No passport necessary!

Junior Concert
The junior division at Walden Public School will present their Christmas program on Tuesday, December 14 called "A Home Theatre Christmas.” The evening performance begins at 6:30 pm. There was also a matinée at 11:40 am for primary students and parents/guardians.


Kindergarten Concert
The JK and SK classes invite their parents and families to a traditional Christmas concert on Thursday, December 16, from 12 pm to 1 pm. The theme “Christmas through a child’s eyes” will provide laughter and spread the holiday cheer.


Wanup Public School
On Wednesday, December 15 at 12 pm, Wanup Public School will present its holiday concert to families and friends.  The school welcomes all to join them for a social following the concert where tea and cookies will be served. 

The Christmas dinner for students will be held on Monday, December 20.  A delicious hot turkey meal will be served to all students.

On the last day before the holidays begin, Wednesday, December 22, there will be a carol sing in the gym.  Family and friends are invited to attend.

Webbwood Public School
Students will participate in a Christmas concert on Monday, December 20, 2010 from 6 pm to 7 pm.  Family and community members are welcome.  A number of items have been donated towards the Christmas Raffle to help raise funds for Webbwood’s Intermediate students’ year-end trip.   

Students will participate in a pancake lunch with Santa on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 12 pm.    

The Webbwood Public School Parent Group will host a craft day on Wednesday, December 15, in the school gym.

Wembley Public School
Wembley Public School’s Christmas Concert will take place on Monday, December 20th, 2010. There will be an afternoon performance from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm and an evening performance at 7 pm. The whole school will perform traditional Christmas songs in English, French and Ojibwe. The school band and choir will take part in the Christmas concert as well.  Between each performance, there will be video footage of ‘Wembley past’ as this will be the last Christmas concert in the school.  The community is invited to join the students and help celebrate the holiday season.

Westmount Public School
The Westmount Wizards will begin the festive season with “Noel en amitié!” The fun will begin on Thursday, December 16 at 10:45 am.  On Friday, December 17 at 1:30 pm parents/guardians and guests are welcome to enjoy the angelic voices of SK to Grade 3 French Immersion students.
 
A collection of non-perishable food items will be collected for the food bank.

Confederation Secondary School
Confederation Secondary School is hosting its annual Christmas is Giving Food Drive.  All donations will be given to the Good Neighbour Food Bank and the Capreol Food Bank. Residents can bring their donations to Confederation Secondary School any time between 7 am and 9 pm until December 10th.

Monetary donations will also be gratefully accepted. Donations can be made at Confederation Secondary School during regular school hours. Confederation Secondary School thanks all community partners for their support of this initiative, including Northway Bus Lines, Valley Growers, Camspec, Food Basics, Tim Hortons in Val Caron, Caisse Populaire in Val Caron, Metro and RP Signs.

Lockerby Composite School
The Lockerby Composite School Christmas Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 14th at 7 pm, featuring the Lockerby Concert and Jazz Bands.

Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School
The school will host a Christmas concert on Thursday, December 16, at 7 pm in the gymnasium. Admission is by donation.

Lively District Secondary School
The Kids Helping Kids Canned Food Drive will run until Friday, December 10, 2010.  Prior to the Christmas break, the school will host a Christmas concert with proceeds going to the Joan Mantle Music Trust. Watch for details!

Manitoulin Secondary School
On Thursday, December 2, Manitoulin Secondary School hosted an Island Schools concert featuring performances from the Manitoulin Secondary School junior and senior bands and the vocal group as well as choirs from Assiginack Public School, Little Current Public School, Central Manitoulin Public School and Charles C. McLean Public School. A silver collection was taken at the door, with all proceeds going to the Joan Mantle Music Trust Fund.

Manitoulin Secondary School will host its 41st Annual Awards Night on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 7:30 pm.  During this evening of celebration, Manitoulin Secondary School graduates will receive over $47,000 in monetary awards – all donated by the school’s generous community.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Student Senate
Recently, members of the Rainbow District School Board Student Senate and former Student Trustee Billy Mekers braved the elements and went door-to-door Christmas caroling to raise money for the CTV telethon.  Together with caroloing and generous donations, Student Senate was able to raise $300.
