Festive Events in Rainbow Schools 2011

A.B. Ellis Public School
A.B. Ellis Public School will host a pancake breakfast with Santa on Friday, December 16th. Primary students will have their picture taken with Santa. The Christmas Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 20th at 1:30 pm and 6 pm in the gym at A.B. Ellis Public School.  The community is welcome to attend. Students in all grades will perform a variety of songs and short plays.

Adamsdale Public School
Adamsdale Public School will present its annual Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 14th at 6 pm.  Students from JK to Grade 6 will perform a variety of poems and skits as well as song and dance routines to celebrate the holiday season.  A dress rehearsal will take place on the same day at 1:30 pm.  Parents and families are welcome to attend both performances. (The alternative date in case of inclement weather is Thursday, December 15th.)  In addition, Adamsdale Public School will host Christmas carolling in the gym on Thursday, December 15th and Thursday, December 22nd from 2:20 pm to 2:50 pm. Dennis Batman will accompany students, staff and guests on the piano. All are welcome to join in the celebration of the festive season.

Alexander Public School
Alexander Public School will celebrate the holiday season on Tuesday, December 20th with a winter concert. The JK to Grade 2 students will perform from 4 pm to 5 pm followed by the Grade 3 to 8 students from 6 pm to 7 pm. Parents are welcome to join the dress rehearsals on December 20th. The JK to Grade 2 dress rehearsal will begin at 11:30 am. The Grade 3 to 8 dress rehearsal will begin at 1:30 pm.

The Alexander Gators will continue to Pay It Forward throughout December by providing Christmas baskets to families in need in the community and donating items to the Sudbury Food Bank.  Donations, including wrapped gifts, money, or non-perishable food items, will be collected at the winter concert.




Algonquin Road Public School
The Algonquin Choir performed on EZ Rock 105.3 on Monday, December 12th at 8:40 am. The Recorder Ensemble will join the Choir for a performance at St. Joseph’s Villa on Friday, December 16th.

Algonquin Road Public School will celebrate the holiday season with a variety of festive events.  Students from JK to Grade 5/6 will present Christmas concerts on Tuesday, December 20th at 10 am and 2 pm. Everyone is welcome.

Students in Grades 6 to 8 will host a Christmas potluck luncheon on Wednesday, December 21st from noon to 1 pm.  Parents and guardians are invited to join their children for lunch in celebration of the upcoming holiday season.



Assiginack Public School
During the week of December 12th to 16th, the students of Assiginack Public School will collect canned food items for the Island Food Bank.

Students at Assiginack Public School will participate in a Christmas concert on Monday, December 19th at 7 pm.  The Grade 6/7 class will host a bake sale as well as a touch and take table. There will be a silver collection to support student activities.  Students will also share in the joy of the Christmas spirit when Santa visits the school.

Charles C. McLean Public School
C.C. McLean’s Grade 3/4 class participated in the Christmas Concert at Manitoulin Secondary School on Thursday, December 1st.

On Friday, December 23rd, friends and families are invited to attend C.C. McLean’s Carol Sing.  This tradition begins at 9 am in the school gym.  Students, staff and families will celebrate the Christmas season by singing traditional and contemporary Christmas songs.

The SK class has been busy creating ornaments that will be given to ValuMart customers as a thank you for their financial donations to the Manitoulin Food Bank.

A non-perishable food drive is taking place throughout December to assist the Manitoulin Food Bank in providing food to needy families during the festive season and throughout the year.

Chelmsford Public School
Chelmsford Public School has made donations to the Chelmsford Friendship House Food Bank/La Maison d’Amitié, Kids Helping Kids, and the Sudbury Food Bank as part of the festive season. Non-perishable food items will be accepted throughout December and are greatly appreciated. Those wishing to make a donation can bring food items to the school before December 21st. 

On Friday, December 16th at 10 am, the Chelmsford Public School Choir will share their voices with the community as they perform at St. Gabriel’s Villa. They will then move to Place Bonaventure Mall at 1:45 pm to continue spreading Christmas cheer.

Students will also celebrate the holiday season with school concerts at 9 am and 11:30 am on Tuesday, December 20th.  The concerts are open to all school community members.

Copper Cliff Public School
Copper Cliff Public School will host its annual "Please Santa, I Can Explain…." concert on Tuesday, December 13th at 6:30 pm in the school gym. Fairy tale villains explain their behaviour to Santa in the hope of moving from the ‘naughty’ list to the ‘nice’ list. Everyone is welcome to attend.  There is no admission and the school will host a bake sale as well as a raffle for a television.  The Dolcissimo handchime choir, concert band, and all classes will perform songs, dances, skits and poems at the concert.  Doors open at 6 pm. 

On Tuesday, December 20th at 1:30 pm, Dolcissimo will join the Intensive Support Class at The Walford on the Park Retirement Residence for Christmas carolling and a handchime performance. 

Lastly, students and staff will participate in traditional Christmas carolling during the week prior to the Christmas break.

R.L. Beattie Public School
The Beattie Barons invite parents to attend the JK to Grade 8 Holiday Concert "Noel Chez Nous, Noel Chez Vous!" on Friday, December 16th at 10 am or 1:30 pm.  During the week of December 12th, student council will collect canned goods for this year’s Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive.  Once again, school staff has decided to support the Sudbury Food Bank Christmas Gift Card Program.  They kindly ask parents to purchase gift cards in lieu of presents if they wish to do so.  It is R.L. Beattie Public School’s way of Paying it Forward.

On Wednesday, December 21st, the Barontones Beattie Choir accompanied by a JK Class and an SK Class will share their holiday spirit through song with the residents of St. Joseph’s Villa. On Thursday, December 22nd, two more SK classes will entertain the residents of the Breezes Retirement Home.



Carl A. Nesbitt Public School
The talented students in each grade at Carl A. Nesbitt Public School will perform a bilingual musical production entitled "Snow Biz” on Thursday, December 22nd. Performances will take place at 9:30 am and noon. Please bring a non-perishable item for the Edgar Burton Food Drive.  A sing-a-long will take place on Friday, December 23rd at noon. The choir will perform at this time. Tickets for the Christmas basket raffle, at $2 each or three for $5, will be available until the concert. The draw will take place at the end of the second concert. Tickets are available anytime in the main office.  Nesbitt will also host a "Pancake and P.J. Day" on Friday, December 23rd. 

Central Manitoulin Public School
Students from Grades 3 to 8 will attend Beauty and the Beast at the Sudbury Theatre Centre on Wednesday, December 14th.

The school will host its annual Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 20th at 6:30 pm.  A non-perishable food item for the Manitoulin Family Resources’ Christmas Basket Campaign would be appreciated.

On Thursday, December 22nd, family skating times are scheduled to take place at the Burt Memorial Arena in Mindemoya.  Please contact the school for specific times.

On Friday, December 23rd at 9:30 am, the entire school will participate in a Christmas sing-a-long in the gym.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Churchill Public School
Churchill Public School will host its annual Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 21st at 11 am and 6 pm.  The event promises to be an eclectic variety of seasonal favourites.



Cyril Varney Public School
Cyril Varney Public School will celebrate "A Musical Christmas" on Wednesday, December 14th in the school auditorium.  Students from JK to Grade 6 will present a variety of musical productions celebrating the holiday season. Parents and guests are welcome to attend either the afternoon performance at 11:45 am or the evening performance at 5 pm. In order to support the Kids Helping Kids Christmas Food Drive, please bring a non-perishable food item for admission to the festivities. Your support of Cyril Varney Public School and the Sudbury Food Bank is appreciated.



C.R. Judd Public School
C. R. Judd Public School will present its annual Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 20th at 6:30 pm. The students from JK to Grade 8 will perform a variety of poems, short stories and songs to celebrate the holiday season. The concert will also feature performances by the school glee club accompanied by the junior and senior bands.  A dress rehearsal will take place on Monday, December 19th at 1:30 pm. Parents and families are welcome for both performances.  The school will collect non-perishable food items instead of charging admission.  Donations will be delivered to the Capreol Bread and Roses Food Bank.



Ernie Checkeris Public School
Students at Ernie Checkeris Public School from JK to Grade 3 will sing en français for the Christmas season.  Parents and guests are welcome to attend the Checkeris Concert on Tuesday, December 20th at 11:30 am, with a second performance at 6 pm.  The audience will be rewarded with a special sing-a-long at the end, involving audience participation.  The school will sell raffle tickets for Holiday Baskets at $2 each or three for $5, until the evening concert.  Draws will take place after the concert.  Staff and students will also meet each day from Monday, December 19th to Friday, December 23rd, at 2:15 pm for a sing-a-long in the gymnasium.  On Friday, December 23rd, a jolly, bearded special guest will visit Ernie Checkeris to hear student wishes for the season.



Gatchell School
Gatchell School will host a Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 21st at 1 pm. Family and friends are invited to attend. After the concert, guests will be treated to a delightful assortment of baked goods prepared by the students. The students and staff are also collecting non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton food drive. Guests wishing to contribute to the food drive may drop off items under the Christmas tree in the main entrance on the day of the concert.

Lansdowne Public School
Lansdowne Public School will celebrate the holiday season with a variety of festive events. On December 5th, staff and students began celebrating the holidays with the 12 Days of Christmas.  Each day, marks a special event at the school, including the writing of "Twas a Night Here at Lansdowne", Red and Green Spirit Day, Pyjamas and Reading Buddies and the annual Teacher Tree decorating contest.

On Thursday, December 15th, Better Beginnings Better Futures will host a traditional Christmas dinner for all students and their families in the school gym starting at 5:30 pm.

There will also be Christmas concerts on Monday, December 19th and Tuesday, December 20th. Both concerts will take place from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm and will feature students from the Early Learning Program to Grade 8. The theme for the concert is Peace. All parents and guardians are welcome to attend.

Grade 8 students will attend a holiday feast hosted by Sudbury Secondary School on Thursday, December 22nd.

Larchwood Public School
Larchwood Public School opened its doors to all members of the public for its annual Christmas Tea on Sunday, December 4.

All members of the school community participated in the local Knights of Columbus Food Drive until Friday, December 2nd. During the school Christmas concerts on Wednesday, December 21st at 1 pm and 6:30 pm, donations of non-perishable items for the local Lions Club food drive will be accepted. Everyone is welcome to attend these Classic Country Christmas concerts.

The Larchwood Public School Choir performed at the St. John’s Carolfest at St. John’s Church in Levack at 6:30 pm on Sunday, December 11th. The Choir will also perform at the Sounds of Christmas Concert to be held at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Levack at 6:30 pm on Sunday, December 18th.

Friends and family are invited to join the school for traditional singing of holiday carols on Thursday, December 22nd and Friday, December 23rd. Please contact the school for details and a schedule.



Levack Public School
Primary students will perform a Christmas concert for parents at 1:40 pm on Thursday, December 22nd.  Admission to the concert is a non-perishable food item.

Little Current Public School
Little Current Public School will host its Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 21st.  There will be a performance at 11:20 am and 6 pm.  This year’s Christmas concert is a musical production, with an original script developed by the Grade 8 drama club.  The play, “Don’t Stop Believing”, takes a modern spin on Santa’s eternal struggle to get all of the presents delivered to boys and girls around the world on time.  His main obstacle is the increasing possibility that he will get stuck in chimneys along the way.  Most of the musical numbers include re-worded versions of popular songs.  A team of Grade 8 students worked diligently to feature important themes and character traits in the story, including self-esteem, anti-bullying, respect and the importance of showing kindness to others despite how different or unique they may seem on the outside.  While the music may be less traditional, the message in the play is timeless and heart-warming.

A Christmas Carol sing-a-long will take place in the school gym on Friday, December 23rd at 11:30 am. Parents/guardians and family members who may wish to come in and sing with the students are more than welcome.



Long Lake Public School
The Long Lake community will celebrate the festive season on Tuesday, December 20th from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm with a Christmas social.   

MacLeod Public School
Last month, MacLeod Public School students and staff collected over 200 coats for the Coats for Kids campaign in Sudbury. Parents and students volunteered to wash all the coats before bringing them to Better Beginnings, Better Futures. The MacLeod school community also supports the Food Drive, by collecting non-perishable food and selling Food Bank Cards. This year, the cards feature artwork by student Jada Stewart-Fish and staff member Jay Favot. MacLeod Public School will host a concert in the annex where JK to Grade 2 students will perform for parents and friends on Tuesday, December 20th at 9 am and 11:15 am. A community carol sing takes place on Thursday, December 15th from 5 pm to 6 pm.

Markstay Public School
On Tuesday, December 20th at 1 pm, Markstay Public School will celebrate the holiday season with a seasonal-themed concert "Let it Snow". Family and friends are invited.  The school will sell 50/50 tickets. There will also be a gift basket raffle and a bake sale at the concert.  Throughout December, the school will collect non-perishable food items for the Markstay-Warren Food Bank. In addition, the school has partnered with a community organization and will be supporting local families with donations of food, clothes and toys.

Monetville Public School
Students and parent volunteers have packed 43 boxes full of toys, school supplies, clothing and hygiene products for children in a variety of countries around the world as part of Operation Christmas Child.  In addition, students at Monetville Public School will collect non-perishable food items for the French River Food Drive until December 13th. Everyone is welcome to attend Monetville’s annual Winter Concert on Thursday, December 22nd at 1:45 pm.



Northeastern Elementary School
Northeastern Elementary School has adopted two families for the holiday season by providing them with gifts and a meal.  All students are collecting non-perishable food items for the “Kids Helping Kids” canned food drive. 

On Friday, December 16th, at 8:45 a.m., the Northeastern Elementary School Choir will perform live on the EZ Rock 105.3 radio station.

Primary students will perform a Holiday Concert entitled “The Spirit of Giving” at 9:30 am on Wednesday, December 21st.  The Sign Language Club will perform the Olympic theme song “I Believe”.

The Intensive Support Program and Section classes will host a holiday tea in the cafeteria on Monday, December 19th at 1 pm for their parents. Students will entertain the audience with drumming and signing.

On Thursday, December 22nd and Friday, December 23rd, there will be a school-wide sing-a-long in the gym at 9 am.  All parents are welcome to come and sing along with the Northeastern Cougars.

Queen Elizabeth II Public School
Queen Elizabeth II Public School will participate in the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive as students give back to the community.  The school’s annual Christmas Bazaar was held on Friday, December 9th. All students will be treated to a turkey lunch on Monday, December 19th that will be prepared by staff and community volunteers.  Students will entertain their families and guests at a Winter Concert on Wednesday, December 21st at 1:45 pm.

Pinecrest Public School
Pinecrest Public School will present its annual talent show on Thursday, December 22nd at 9:15 am in the gym. Pinecrest students will showcase their talent through song, dance, drama, comedy and instrumental presentations. There will also be a performance by the Pinecrest rock band. Many guests from the community will be on hand to judge the acts. Pop, chips and popcorn will be on sale during the performance.



Princess Anne Public School
Princess Anne Public School will celebrate the Christmas season by going green this year. Students from Early Learning Kindergarten to Grade 8 will perform "Santa Goes Green", a concert on how to be environmentally friendly during the holiday season. The concert will take place at the Caruso Club on Tuesday, December 20th at 12:15 pm and 6 pm. Parents and families are welcome to join in the holiday fun for both performances.

Redwood Acres Public School
Redwood Acres Public School launched its Kids Helping Kids Food Drive on Tuesday, November 30th, with a school assembly. Staff and students set a goal to collect 4,000 cans. 

The school’s annual Christmas Concert will be presented in the gym at 11:30 am on Wednesday, December 21st and Thursday, December 22nd.  Donations to the food drive will be accepted at the door.  This year, Redwood is pleased to present the first annual "Santa Claus Awards."  Hosted by Santa and his lovely wife, Mrs. Claus, various celebrities will be in attendance to accept their awards for hits of the holidays.  Musical performances will feature all classes from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5. The week will wrap up with a Carol Sing in the gym on Friday, December 23rd, beginning at 9 am.  Families, friends and community members are welcome to join in the festivities!

R.H. Murray Public School
R.H. Murray Public School will host its second annual Christmas Feast for students and community members on Wednesday, December 14th at 12:30 pm.  The school’s Christmas Concert will be held on Tuesday, December 20th at 1:30 pm and 6 pm. Everyone is welcome.  R.H. Murray’s choir performed at the Annual Walden Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 pm on Saturday, December 10th, at the Anderson Farm and Museum.

S. Geiger Public School
S. Geiger Public School will perform a Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 22nd at 1 pm in the school auditorium.  Students from JK to Grade 8 will present a variety of musical and drama productions celebrating the holiday season. Parents and community members are welcome. Please bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Massey-Walford Food Bank.  On Friday, December 23rd, students will skate at the Massey Arena.     

Valley View Public School
Valley View Public School will host two Christmas Concerts on Tuesday, December 20th.  Students from Grade 3 to 8 will perform at 9:30 am and students from JK to Grade 2 will perform at 11:30 am. The entire Valley View community is invited to attend.

Walden Public School
The JK/SK classes at Walden Public School invite their families and friends to join them for a traditional Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 14th at 11:30 am and 6 pm. The children are excited to have their families hear them sing their favourite Christmas carols. Students in Grades 1 to 3 will present “The Christmas Star” on Monday, December 19th at 9:30 am and 6:30 pm.  Students in Grades 4 to 6, including the Grade 3/4 class, will present "The XMAS Factor", a spoof on The X Factor. Each grade will perform a Christmas parody and will be judged. The entire Junior Division will perform a finale song together at the performance. Performances will take place on Tuesday, December 20th at 9:30 am and 6:30 pm.

Wanup Public School
Wanup Public School will present its holiday concert to families and friends on Wednesday, December 14th at 1 pm. Community members are welcome. There will also be a bake sale and holiday craft sale at the concert.

Westmount Public School
The Westmount Wizards will begin the festive season with "Chantons Noel!” on Tuesday, December 20th at 1:30 pm. A second concert will be held on Wednesday, December 21st at 10:50 am. Parents/ guardians and guests are welcome to join the school and enjoy the angelic voices of the JK to Grade 2 French Immersion students.

Webbwood Public School
In the spirit of giving, the Webbwood community is working together to collect non-perishable food items for the Espanola Food Bank throughout December.  The food drive will culminate on the evening of December 21 when all of the students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 will participate in a Holiday Concert at 5:30 pm.  The following day, on December 22nd, members from the Webbwood community will join staff in the annual Holiday Craft Day event, where students will have an opportunity to make festive pieces from a variety of cultures.

Lasalle Secondary School
The Lasalle Secondary School art students will host an evening celebrating the Arts on Tuesday, December 13th in the school’s main gymnasium at 7 pm. The evening will feature performances by the Improv Team as well as all seven of Lasalle’s music ensembles. Works from Lasalle’s art students will be exhibited in a gallery area at the back of the gym. Admission is a donation of spare change. Don’t miss the penny table, baked goods and refreshments.



Lively District Secondary School
The Kids Helping Kids Canned Food Drive will continue until Friday, December 16th.  The school will host a Christmas Assembly on Wednesday, December 21st for secondary students. The Grade 7 and 8 Bands will host morning and afternoon Christmas Concerts on Thursday, December 22nd for their community of schools. Students from Lively District Secondary School participated in the Anderson Farm Christmas Tree Lighting annual event on Saturday, December 10th.



Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School
Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School will host a Christmas concert on Thursday, December 15th at 7 pm in the gymnasium. Admission is by donation.

Manitoulin Secondary School
On Thursday, December 1st, Manitoulin Secondary School hosted an Island Schools concert featuring performances from the Manitoulin Secondary School junior and senior bands and the vocal group as well as choirs from Little Current Public School, Central Manitoulin Public School, Charles C. McLean Public School and Lakeview Public School. A silver collection was taken at the door, with all proceeds divided among participating schools for their music programs.

Manitoulin Secondary School will host its 42nd Annual Awards Night on Thursday, December 22nd at 7:30 pm.  During this evening of celebration, Manitoulin Secondary School graduates will receive over $47,000 in monetary awards – all donated by the school’s generous community.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Sudbury Secondary School
Sudbury Secondary School will present the Variety Show “A Trip Down Memory Lane” on Thursday, December 15th, Friday, December 16th and Saturday, December 17th at 7:30 p.m.

Once again this year, the school will participate in Adopt-a-Family, providing assistance for families at Christmas. This effort is coordinated with Better Beginnings Better Futures.

On Thursday, December 22nd, the entire school will gather together to celebrate the school community with the Third Annual Sudbury Secondary School Holiday Feast. The entire school enjoys a turkey dinner.

The Sudbury Secondary School annual Christmas Assembly will take place in the afternoon on Friday, December 23rd. The event will feature entertainment for all.
