Festive Events in Rainbow Schools 2013

A.B. Ellis Public School
A.B. Ellis Public School will host its annual Breakfast with Santa on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 9 am, where students will enjoy delicious pancakes and a special visit from Santa. Students and staff are proud to host Northern Ontario’s Jr. A Hockey Team, the Espanola Rivermen, for this event.
A.B. Ellis students will host a bake sale on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 beginning at 5:30 pm with proceeds going to World Vision Canada.  The annual Christmas Concert will take place at 6 pm with students performing songs, poems and dances from a variety of classes. 
Adamsdale Public School
Adamsdale Public School will celebrate the holiday season with a concert presented on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 6 pm in the school gymnasium.  There will be a dress rehearsal at 1:45 pm that afternoon.  Parents/guardians are welcome to either concert.  The snow date (alternate date) is Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the same times.  Students will be carolling in the gym at 1:45 pm on Monday, December 16, 2013 and Wednesday, December 18, 2013.  Parents and guardians are welcome to all of these events.  The Adamsdale Public School Me To We Club will be carolling in the Minnow Lake area on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 6 pm.
Alexander Public School
Alexander Public School families are invited to the French Immersion Christmas concert:  L’étoile de Noel.  Students from ELK to Grade 8 will perform at both concerts on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 2 pm to 3 pm and Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm. Parents are encouraged to bring a non perishable food item for the Edgar Burton food drive. Grade 8 students will also sell Christmas cookies made in M. Leblanc’s after school baking class. Alexander looks forward to the Gator community joining them as the festive season begins.
Algonquin Road Public School
Family and friends are invited to Algonquin Road Public School’s Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at noon.  Students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 will perform.
Algonquin Road Public School is pleased to present A Holiday Concert on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 11:45 am.  Family and friends are invited to enjoy performances by the choir, band and vocal groups from Sudbury Secondary School.  Admission is a non-perishable food item.
Assiginack Public School 
Assiginack Public School will host a canned food / new toy drive until Monday, December 16, 2013, in support of the Manitoulin Family Resources Food Bank Christmas Hampers. 
The Assiginack students will perform a Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 6 pm.
A Christmas sing-along will take place Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 1:30 pm in the school gymnasium. The public is welcome. 
Carl A. Nesbitt Public School 
The talented Nitros from Carl A. Nesbitt Public School will perform various holiday songs, skits and presentations on Wednesday, December 18, 2013.  Two concerts will take place, at 9:30 am and 11:45 am.  The Nickel City Sound’s Barbershop Chorus will open the show. The Nesbitt Nitro Notes choir will close the evening with the Carl A. Nesbitt Public School song and a holiday wish to all.  Audience participation will be encouraged. 
Nesbitt will also host a "Turkey Luncheon" on Monday, December 16, 2013 from 11 am to 1 pm.  All proceeds will be donated to the local food bank and food drive.  The staff, students and school community are working together towards this cause. Grade 3 teacher, Lynn Laurin, is the teacher in charge.  Tickets are $5.  Everyone is welcome.
Central Manitoulin Public School
Central Manitoulin Public School will host its annual Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 6:30 pm in the school gymnasium.  Donations of non-perishable food items to help support the local food bank would be appreciated.
On Thursday, December 19, 2013, the entire school will participate in a Christmas sing-along at 9:30 am in the gymnasium.  Everyone is invited to join the students and staff. The public is welcome to both events. 
In lieu of giving gifts for teachers, families may purchase Manitoulin Family Resources gift cards.  Staff and students of Central Manitoulin Public School hope to make a difference for those less fortunate in the community during the holiday season.
Charles C. McLean Public School
On Wednesday, December 18, 2013, Charles C. McLean Public School will host a Holiday Concert at 6:30 pm in the school gymnasium.  All grades will participate. The public is welcome.
On Thursday, December 19, 2013 there will be a holiday sing-along in the school gymnasium at 9 am. The public is welcome.
Chelmsford Public School
Chelmsford Public School kicked off its holiday festivities on Friday, November 22, 2013 hosting the TD Toy Bank kick off live on-air at the Q92 studio.
The Chelmsford Public School Choir will sing at the CTV Lions’ Christmas Telethon on Saturday, December 7, 2013.
The entire school will enjoy a visit from Santa and a turkey dinner on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. 
The Christmas Concert will take place on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 9:30 am and 11:30 am for family and friends.
Churchill Public School 
Students from Churchill Public School will host their Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 17, 2013. There will be two shows, at noon and 6 pm.
Churchill Public School students are collecting non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive until Friday, December 13, 2013. Students are also participating in the TD Toy Bank Drive during Churchill’s Season of Giving.
Copper Cliff Public School
Copper Cliff Public School will host ‘So You Think You Can Dance Copper Cliff’ on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 6 pm to 7:15 pm.  Santa Claus and his two elves have agreed to judge the competition.  All classes will dance to a variety of traditional and current Christmas hits. The public is welcome. Donations of non-perishable food items to support the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive would be appreciated.

Cyril Varney Public School
Cyril Varney Public School will host its annual Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 17, 2013.  There will be an afternoon performance at 1 pm and an evening performance at 6 pm. The concert is themed ‘Sweet Seasons Greetings’. Donations of non-perishable food items to support the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive would be appreciated.
Ernie Checkeris Public School
The Ernie Checkeris Beavers Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3 students will sing en français as they welcome the Christmas season on Red / Green day.
Parents, families and guests are welcome to attend the Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm.  The Nickel City Sound’s Barbershop Chorus will open the show.  Audience participation is encouraged in this four-part harmony sing-along. Classes will perform songs they have prepared for the holiday season. The Checkeris Chanters choir will sing the Ernie Checkeris Public School song.  The show will finish with a special wish to all, led by Grade 2 teacher, Mme. Taylor. The public is welcome and encouraged to wear red and green for the festivities.
Lansdowne Public School
Family and friends are invited to the Lansdowne Public School sing-along taking place Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. All families are welcome to join in for some holiday favourites and festive treats. 
Larchwood Public School
Larchwood Public School will participate in a food drive until Friday, December 13, 2013. 
Each day, from Monday, December 16 to Thursday, December 19, 2013, family and friends are invited to join students and staff for their traditional carol singing in the school gymnasium. Please contact the school for a schedule. 
On Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 1 pm, Larchwood Public School will present the play "The Larchwood Academy Awards of Merriment and Jollification". On Wednesday, December 18, 2013 a matinée will be held at 1 pm and another performance will be held at 6 pm.  All are welcome and there is no charge for admission.
Levack Public School
Levack Public School will host a Christmas sing-along on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 beginning at 9:15 am in the school gymnasium.  This event will feature the choir, class performances and live musical accompaniment courtesy of the Levack Public School’s Rock Band. The public is welcome to share in the spirit of the season.
Little Current Public School
Little Current Public School will host the Manitoulin Secondary School Band on Friday, December 13, 2013 in the morning.  The band will perform various Christmas holiday favourites.
On Wednesday, December 18, 2013 the school will have a Christmas spirit day, where staff and students are invited to decorate themselves in holiday attire.
The students and staff will be in the gymnasium for a Christmas Carol sing-along at 11:30 am on Thursday, December 19, 2013.  Parents and the community are invited to attend.
MacLeod Public School
To support the Elgin Street Mission, MacLeod Public School will sell Christmas cards, in lieu of giving teacher gifts this year.
For the third year, the Grade 4 students will take on the “Share the Warmth” campaign. Students will collect blankets, coats, hats, mitts and socks from those in Grade 3 to Grade 8. Small donations are accepted towards the purchase of such items. Hot 93.5 and Toppers Pizza, among others, are joining forces to run this program in Greater Sudbury. The launch for this initiative occurred in November 2013.
Students will perform The Annex Festival Concert for parents and guardians on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 and Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm. As well, the MacLeod Public School Grade 3 and 3/4 classes will host a concert in their classrooms. 
Students will ‘Pay It Forward’ and collect non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. 
Markstay Public School
Markstay Public School will host the “Celebrations Around the World” Winter Concert on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 11:45 am. Baked goods and homemade chocolates will be for sale. Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy the performances of the talented students.
Monetville Public School
Students at Monetville Public School will celebrate the holiday season with a tasty pancake breakfast with Santa on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 9:30 am.
Students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will perform some holiday favourites at the Monetville Public School Winter Concert on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 1:30 pm. Family and friends are welcome.
M.W. Moore Public and Secondary School
M.W. Moore Public and Secondary School will host a Winter Fun Day on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Everyone is welcome. 
The ‘Secret Santa Get Together’ for students, staff and parents will take place on Thursday, December 19, 2013 beginning at noon. 
Northeastern Elementary School
Northeastern Elementary School will host ‘Believe in the Magic of Christmas’ on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in the school gymnasium. The Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3 students will perform with the drama group and band. The Junior Intermediate students will provide the artwork displayed in the gym. Cost of admission is one canned food item in support of the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive.
Pinecrest Public School
Students at Pinecrest Public School will collect non-perishable food items in support of the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive.
A Christmas Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 7 pm in the school gymnasium. The public is invited to a matinée. 
The Pinecrest Public School’s Glee Club will visit the Elizabeth Centre and the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre in the coming weeks to spread holiday cheer. Another class will be going to the Elizabeth Centre to play board games with the residents and share homemade baking. Character education is alive and well at Pinecrest Public School.
Princess Anne Public School
Princess Anne Public School will host the annual Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 6 pm at the Sudbury Secondary School auditorium. Everyone is welcome.
The entire school community will gather in the gymnasium daily from Monday, December 16, 2013 to Thursday, December 19, 2013 to participate in a Christmas sing-along.
Queen Elizabeth Public School
Queen Elizabeth Public School will host the Annual Christmas Bazaar on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 12:30 pm to 2:40 pm. There will be fun filled activities, including the popular cake – walk and candy cane pull. Admission is 50 cents.
Queen Elizabeth Public School’s Christmas Concert will take place Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 1:45 pm to 3 pm. Parents and relatives are invited.
Redwood Acres Public School
Redwood Acres Public School is a proud participant in the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. Throughout December, students will collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations for the cause.
Winter Wonderland, Redwood Acres Public School’s Christmas Concert, will take place Tuesday December 17, 2013 and Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 11:30 am.  All are welcome. Food donations will be accepted as admission.
On Thursday, December 19, 2013, students and staff will have a pajama day and will be treated to a pancake breakfast delivered to their classrooms. Everyone is invited to share the holiday spirit with staff and students.
R.H. Murray Public School
R.H. Murray Public School’s Christmas Concert, "A Muskie Sweet Celebration", will take place Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at noon.  Students and staff will entertain families with holiday cheer and baked goods including hot chocolate, warm cider and different types of cookies made by each class. Families are encouraged to participate.
R.L. Beattie Public School
R.L. Beattie Public School opened the holiday season on Friday, November 29, 2013 with Red and White Day in support of the United Way.
The R.L. Beattie Barons will participate in the Neighbourhood Action Project of Sudbury’s Christmas Food Hamper Program with the collection of non-perishable food items the week of Monday, December 9, 2013.
R.L. Beattie’s Christmas Concert, “Holiday Magic / La magie de la saison", will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2013 with performances at 10 am and 1 pm.  Families are also welcome to attend the dress rehearsal on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 9:30 am.  Admission is a non-perishable food item. 
The Barontones, under the direction of Mme. Nadeau and Mme. Belanger, will be caroling and spreading holiday joy at Extendicare York and The Walford Retirement Residence on Monday, December 16, 2013.
In lieu of gifts for teachers, staff requested the purchase of Food Bank gift cards. It is the sincere hope that staff and students at R.L. Beattie Public School are able to make Christmas merrier for those less fortunate.
S. Geiger Public School
S. Geiger Public School will host a canned food drive until Wednesday, December 18, 2013.
The S. Geiger Public School Christmas Concert and bake sale will take place Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 1 pm. Admission is a non-perishable food item. The public is welcome.
Valley View Public School
Valley View Public School will begin the festive season with a tree lighting ceremony in the school’s main foyer on Monday, December 9, 2013.  Each grade will decorate a tree to represent a different country from around the world. 
Students from Early Learning Kindergarten to Grade 8 will hold two Christmas concerts on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, one at 9:30 am and the other at 12:30 pm. 
Students at Valley View will participate in the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. They will collect non-perishable food items until Thursday, December 12, 2013.
Staff and students will collect donations towards the Christmas Hamper Program for Valley View families who need a helping hand.  This program fosters empathy and instills good values.
The Grade 7 and 8 students will participate in a French Canadian Reveillon hosted by Confederation Secondary School on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 10 am until 2 pm.
Students at Valley View Public School will enjoy a pajama day and sing-along on Thursday December 19, 2013.
Walden Public School
Kindergarten classes at Walden Public School will perform two Christmas Concerts on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, one at 9:30 am and the other at 6 pm.
Walden Public School’s production ‘Finding Peace’ will be presented on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 9:30 am and 6:30 pm. Time travellers, Emily and Madison, are swept into Emily’s great-great grandmother’s time machine in search of their little dog Peace. During their travels, they celebrate Christmas throughout the centuries. Grades 1 to 3 will perform songs, dances and poems. 
Following a performance by the Chimes group, the school choir and Ojibwe drumming circle, the junior classes from Grade 3/4 to Grade 6 will present a musical play focused on a jukebox in a Soda Shoppe.  The actors in the Soda Shoppe will introduce each musical number.  Performances will take place Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 9:30 am and 6:30 pm.
Students at Walden Public School will collect non-perishable food items for the Walden Food Bank until Wednesday, December 18, 2013.
Webbwood Public School
On Thursday, December 19, 2013 Webbwood Public School students will host their parents and guardians for the monthly community breakfast. After breakfast, everyone will join in the school gymnasium to sing Christmas carols.  The celebration will conclude with students and parents rotating through a series of Christmas and winter craft making opportunities.
Westmount Public School
The Westmount Public School Wizards will begin the holiday season with Christmas Concerts on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm and Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm. Parents and guests will enjoy the voices of students from Senior Kindergarten to Grade 3 French Immersion, en français.
Lively District Secondary School
Lively District Secondary School will host a total of three Christmas Concerts on Monday, December 9, 2013. The Grade 7 and 8 Concert and Rock bands, as well as the High School Concert and Rock bands, will perform.  The 9 am concert will be for the students and staff at Walden Public School. The noon concert will be for the students and staff at Lively District Secondary School from Grades 7 to 12. The evening show, at 7 pm, will be for parents and community members.  Admission to the evening show is a monetary donation of choice.
Students and staff at Lively District Secondary School will also collect cans for the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive.  To assist struggling families during the holiday season, the public is encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items at the school.
Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School
The Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School bands will present the annual Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 7 pm in the school’s upper gymnasium. This will feature the Concert Band and Senior and Junior Jazz Bands.  There will be several vocal solos and skits from their upcoming Variety Show. Admission is by monetary donation of choice.
Manitoulin Secondary School
On Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 7 pm, Manitoulin Secondary School will host the annual “Island Schools Christmas Concert” with performances by the school band, vocal group, and choirs from the Island elementary schools. There will be a silver collection at the door.
Manitoulin Secondary School will hold its 44th Annual Awards Night on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 7:30 pm.  During this evening of celebration, graduates will receive over $48,000 in monetary awards, all donated by the school’s generous community.  Everyone is welcome.
Sudbury Secondary School
Sudbury Secondary School students will enjoy a holiday feast on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 prepared by staff and served by community leaders.  On Thursday, December 19, 2013 students and staff will be entertained at the annual Christmas Talent Show.
