Festive Events in Rainbow Schools 2023

Algonquin Road Public School
Staff and students from Algonquin Road Public School will participate in various activities to kick off the festive season including a cheerful breakfast with Santa, enchanting performances by the concert band and a door decorating contest. Students will dazzle audience members with their talents during the Holiday Showcase on Wednesday, December 13th at 9:45 am. The festivities will continue with ice skating, a junior division potluck, and much more.

Assiginack Public School
Assiginack Public School will collect non-perishable food items in support of the Manitoulin Family Resources Christmas Basket Campaign until Wednesday, December 20th. The Assiginack Public School Choir will perform at the local senior centre on Wednesday, December 13th followed by a special luncheon. In the lead up to the holidays, students will enjoy spirit days including pyjama/plaid day, hot chocolate day and winter toque day. Students will also take part in the December Reading Countdown Challenge. A holiday concert will take place on Wednesday, December 20th at 6 pm. Non-perishable food items will be accepted. Everyone is welcome.

Barrydowne College
Each Wednesday in the lead up to the winter break, students at Barrydowne College are invited to make crafts including handmade wreaths with fresh greens, Christmas candy bouquets and ornaments. Students can also bake an assortment of goodies to gift to someone special or enjoy at school. Meal boxes will be prepared and distributed for families in need within the school community.

Charles C. McLean Public School
Charles C. McLean Public School students made Christmas ornaments to sell at the local grocery store. Proceeds will support the food bank. The school will host its annual Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 20th with performances at 9:30 am and 6:30 pm. On Thursday, December 21st, staff and students will enjoy a delicious hot meal complete with all the trimmings. The entire school will gather in the gym for a carol sing-along on Friday, December 22nd.

C.R. Judd Public School
C.R. Judd Public School will once again participate in the Capreol Bread & Roses Food Drive from Monday, December 4th to Monday, December 11th. Students in Grades 6 to 8 will canvas the community on Monday, December 11th. Families are welcome to purchase a star. Proceeds will support the campaign. On Wednesday, December 13th, students will make ornaments and crafts during Santa’s Workshop to share with families. Baked goods and ornaments will be sold during the Festive Concert on Wednesday, December 20th. Proceeds will also support the food drive. Performances will take place in the school gym for friends and families. In the lead up to the holidays, students will enjoy a Countdown To Christmas spirit week with seasonal-themed activities and challenges.

Central Manitoulin Public School
Central Manitoulin Public School invites community members for an evening of carolling on Tuesday, December 19th at 6 pm. Staff and students continue to collect non-perishable food items and gifts for teens in support of the Manitoulin Family Resources Food Bank. Throughout the month, classes will discuss holidays around the world and will participate in various festive activities and spirit days. Staff and students are encouraged to dress in their favorite pyjamas on Friday, December 22nd for the annual pancake breakfast.

Chelmsford Valley District Composite School
Staff, students and families at CVDCS are working diligently to make the holiday season merry and bright by fundraising in support of the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. Teams were created by division. The class from each division that collects the most will earn a pizza party. Throughout the month, school-wide virtual read alouds will take place focusing on various celebrations. All students will enjoy a holiday feast on Tuesday, December 12th. On Friday, December 15th, students in Grades 5 to 12 may participate in a staff vs. student volleyball game for a toonie or two non-perishable food items. All proceeds will support the food drive. On Wednesday, December 20th at noon, students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will showcase festive cheer during a holiday concert for families. Virtual Christmas Bingo will take place on Thursday, December 21st.

Copper Cliff Public School
Copper Cliff Public School will host a Holiday Concert with acts from Kindergarten to Grade 8 on Monday, December 18th at 6 pm sharp. Those who are able are asked to kindly bring a non-perishable food item to support the food drive.

Jean Hanson Public School
Students from Jean Hanson Public School will enjoy some holiday fun throughout December. Staff and students will collect non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. Students will get into the festive spirit by decorating doors and ornaments and building gingerbread houses. On Friday, December 15th, students will enjoy pyjama day and a pancake breakfast. Santa will make a special appearance to deliver a gift to all students. Parents/guardians are invited to a class-based Christmas party on Wednesday, December 20th to create a Christmas craft with their child followed by a school-wide sing-along with hot chocolate and cookies.

Lansdowne Public School
In the spirit of caring and kindness, Lansdowne Public School students will take part in the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. In the lead up to the holidays, students will enjoy spirit days with cozy winter sweaters, holiday headgear, pyjamas and a pancake breakfast.  Families are invited to a school sing-along led by the school choir. Parents/guardians will share hot chocolate and treats in classes while participating in various activities such as holiday skits, ornament making, crafts and winter bingo. The Go-Green Club will organize and host a Holiday Extravaganza for students to select a recycled gift. Intermediate students will visit Sudbury Secondary School for a holiday feast.

Larchwood Public School
Larchwood Public School kicked off the season of giving with the annual Falls Canned Food Drive on November 27th. Monetary donations and non-perishable food items are accepted. On Friday, December 8th, students and staff will canvass local neighborhoods to collect donations for the food drive. Students will also take part in kindness projects, including making cards for seniors in long-term care facilities. The last week of school will bring an afternoon of math games and hot chocolate in groups, a Winter Concert and Bake Sale on Tuesday, December 19th, a school-wide trip to Dynamic Earth on Wednesday, December 20th, a pancake breakfast for all on Thursday, December 21st, and a winter sing-along on Friday, December 22nd.

Lasalle Elementary School
Lasalle Elementary School kicked off Kindness Week from Monday, December 4th to Friday, December 8th. Lancers will collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations for the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. Staff and students will enjoy various theme days to get everyone in the festive spirit. The school will host a Winter Wonderland concert for families on Wednesday, December 20th at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm in the school gym.

Little Current Public School
Little Current Public School will host a Community Holiday Open House on Thursday, December 14th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Families are invited to visit the school for fun activities arranged by community groups including a food drive for Manitoulin Family Resources, a free kids only shopping event, a visit with Santa, a dance presentation, a choir performance, community member read alouds, caroling, crafts, cookie decorating and card making. Students are invited to take part in theme days in the lead up to the holidays such as red and green day, jersey day, wacky hair day, decorate yourself day, and pyjama day. Students are also invited to participate in the Royal Canadian Legion’s Operation Christmas Card project by preparing Christmas cards for troops overseas.

Lively District Secondary School
Lively District Secondary School will participate in the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. To raise funds, Grade 7 and 8 students will sell candy grams and host a bake sale. Students will also canvass the local community on Tuesday, December 5th during school hours to collect funds for the food drive. A homeroom challenge for secondary students will determine who raised the most funds or collected the most non-perishable food items. French Immersion students will share Christmas stories with primary students at Walden Public School between Monday, December 11th and Friday, December 15th.

Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School
The Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School music program invites the community to their annual Winter Concert in the main gym on Tuesday, December 5th at 7 pm. The event will feature performances by the Senior Band, Grade 9 Band, Jazz Band, Junior Band, soloists, and the Algonquin Road Public School Band. Admission is by donation. Proceeds will support the Joan Mantle Music Trust.

Lockerby Composite School
Staff and students at Lockerby Composite School will once again collect monetary donations and non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. On December 2nd, student and staff runners showcased their community spirit during the Santa Shuffle 5K Race in support of the Salvation Army. In the lead up to the holiday break, the Student Council will host 12 holiday-themed spirit days including candy cane day, pyjama day, ugly sweater day and more. Some English classes will take part in Operation Christmas Cards with Lockerby Legion Branch #564. The music department will present a Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 14th in the auditorium featuring the Lockerby Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Grade 9 Class Acts, and the Junior and Senior Concert Bands. The Student Council will host the Snow Ball Formal on Friday, December 15th.

Markstay Public School
Staff and students from Markstay Public School participated in the Markstay Santa Claus Parade on November 25th. The entire school community kicked off the season of giving with the annual Markstay Food Drive on November 27th. Staff, students and parent volunteers will join other local students, the Markstay-Warren Fire Department and members of the Ontario Provincial Police on Tuesday, December 5th for a chain of caring. Participants will line the streets to make a human chain to hand deliver food items to the Markstay Food Bank. Staff and students will take part in the St. Charles Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, December 9th. A door decorating contest will take place the week of Monday, December 11th. Several classes will attend “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” at Thorneloe University on Thursday, December 14th. All students will enjoy a pancake breakfast and Winter Wonderland concert on Wednesday, December 20th in the school gym. Family and friends are welcome. Students will also take part in various culturally responsive spirit days.

Northeastern Elementary School
Northeastern Elementary School will host various events to celebrate the holiday season. On November 30th, staff, students and families joined together for the second annual Family Food Drive Chili Night at 5:30 pm. Parents/guardians are welcome to watch intermediate students challenge teachers in a “Holly Jolly Volleyball” game on Friday, December 15th at 11:30 am. The final week of school will be filled with door decorating, a holiday feast, holiday sing along and a variety of spirit days such as holiday accessory day, candy cane day, holiday sweater day, festive flannel day and pyjama day. On Friday, December 22nd, students will enjoy a pancake breakfast with Santa.

R.H. Murray Public School
R.H. Murray Public School staff and students will collaborate to collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations to support the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. On Saturday, December 9th, the Snowflake Choir will perform at the Anderson Farm’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. On Thursday, December 14th, families and community members are welcome to join staff and students for a traditional outdoor Christmas concert. Students will enjoy a turkey feast on Tuesday, December 19th. Themed activities including decorating and caroling will take place in the lead up to the holidays.

R.L. Beattie Public School
Students are supporting the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive by selling ornaments and popcorn, as well as holiday-themed spirit days. Families are invited to their child’s class for various activities. Students will also enjoy a traditional reveillon feast, ornament making, a holiday café, pancake breakfast, a scavenger hunt, sing-alongs and making kindness kits for the community. Students will kick off the holidays with a school-wide sing along of holiday favourites.

Redwood Acres Public School
The entire Redwood Acres Public School community will collect non-perishable food items to support the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. The school will host its annual turkey feast on Wednesday, December 13th. A Christmas concert will take place on Wednesday, December 20th with performances in the morning and afternoon.

S. Geiger Public School
Special events and celebrations will bring joy to staff and students at S. Geiger Public School including spirit days each day of the week in the lead up to the holidays. Students in Grade 2/3 will take part in procedural writing “How to Build a Gingerbread House”. They will also implement their learning by constructing their own houses. All students will gather for creative and co-operative activities including school-wide sing-alongs in the gym. A holiday concert for families will take place on Wednesday, December 20th at 1 pm. Guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item in support of the Massey Food Bank. Baked goods and student-created crafts will be available for purchase. The week will conclude with pyjama day and a pancake breakfast in the gym on Friday, December 22nd.

Sudbury Secondary School
Staff and students of Sudbury Secondary School will come together on Wednesday, December 20th for a magnificent holiday feast complete with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, stuffing, and homemade sugar and gingerbread cookies baked by Ms. Doiron and students in foods classes.  This event is a spectacular showcase of Northstar spirit that allows students from a number of classes and clubs to share in the joy and wonder of the season. This year’s feast will bring together over 800 students and staff from Sudbury Secondary School, Princess Anne Public School and Lansdowne Public School.  It is made possible with the help of generous sponsors and staff volunteers. The Student Parliament will also host their annual door decorating contest, a long-standing tradition that really makes the hallways come alive with Christmas spirit. Students will once again work with community outreach contacts to provide warm clothes and snacks to support school families and the downtown community. The greatest “Holiday Assembly” auditions have already begun for a talent show set to take place on Friday, December 22nd. The event will culminate with a fun-filled staff skit to kick off the holidays.

Walden Public School
Staff and families from Walden Public School are encouraged to give what they can in support of the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. Non-perishable food items and monetary donations through SchoolCash Online are appreciated. Each Friday, students are invited to donate and participate in spirit days including warm sweater day, plaid day and pyjama day. On December 4th, students wore jerseys. The school also hosted a Dare to Care assembly with special guests from the Sudbury Wolves. A “Giving Parade” will take place on Thursday, December 14th. Students will deliver donations to the local food bank. The entire school community joined together for a winter clothing drive for “Freed from Need” in Sudbury. On Tuesday, December 19th at 9:15 am, students will present “A Cup of Kindness” Winter Concert with songs and dramatic performances to highlight the many joys of the season. Families are invited to visit the Ornament Craft Fair with proceeds supporting the food drive. On Thursday, December 21st, students will enjoy a pancake breakfast prepared by volunteers and supported by the Walden School Council. Later that day, parents/guardians are welcome to “Snuggle and Read” with their children. The week will culminate on Friday, December 22nd with a “Whoville”-themed hair day.
