Festive Events in Rainbow Schools 2025

Adamsdale Public School
Adamsdale Public School will be a hub of holiday cheer throughout the month of December. On Friday, December 5th, students will take part in plaid or flannel day. On Monday, December 8th, students will enjoy a pancake breakfast and photos with Santa. A Scholastic Book Fair will also take place in the gym from 3 pm to 6 pm and will continue from 9 am to 3 pm on Tuesday, December 9th. Friday, December 12th will be Candy Cane Spirit Day and students will create family holiday crafts. The week leading up to the holidays will include Holiday Sweater Day, Holiday Headwear Day, Twinkle All the Way, Holly Jolly Elf Day, Holiday Pajama Day and Bingo, with a special holiday feast on Wednesday, December 17th.

Algonquin Road Public School
Algonquin Road Public School has a variety of festive activities planned for the holiday season. To kick things off, the Concert Band had their first performance at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School’s “Winter Vibes” Concert on November 26th. On Saturday, December 6th, 110 primary, junior and intermediate choir members were selected for the opening performance of the CTV Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon. To better accommodate families, the school’s Seasonal Showcase will take place over two days. Families of students with last names A-L are invited to attend on Wednesday, December 10th at 12 pm, and families of students with the last names M-Z are invited to attend on Thursday, December 11th at 12 pm. The showcase will feature Kindergarten students, school choirs, as well as students in Grades 1 to 3. The Dare to Care Club will collect donations for the Edgar Burton Food Drive and will also make festive cards for local seniors.

Assiginack Public School
Assiginack Public School will celebrate the season in several exciting ways this year. The Principal’s Council will run a Twelve Days of Christmas event from December 1st to 19th, featuring festive activities such as Christmas Hair Day, Sing a Christmas Carol Day, and Pin the Nose on Rudolf Day. Grade 2/3 drummers will share their talents at the Assiginack Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 5th. The school will host its traditional Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 17th at 1:30 pm bringing students, staff, and families together for a joyful holiday celebration.

Barrydowne College
Each Wednesday in the lead up to the winter break, students from Barrydowne College are invited to make crafts including handmade wreaths with fresh greens, Christmas candy bouquets, as well as pamper gift packs including handmade whipped body butter, bath salts, beeswax candles and essential oil rollers. All items will be made with natural ingredients and packaged sustainably. Students can also bake an assortment of goodies to give to someone special or enjoy at school. Meal boxes will be prepared and distributed for families in need within the school community.

C.R. Judd Public School
Staff and students from C.R. Judd Public School kicked off the holiday season on November 27th with Selfies with Santa and the Grinch organized by the School Council. This pay-what-you-can event welcomed donations of non-perishable food items for the Capreol Bread & Roses Food Drive. The school will host a Cereal Drive which will conclude with a school-wide cereal dominoes activity. Donations will be accepted until Friday, December 12th. The celebrations will continue with a Holiday Extravaganza, where students can choose a gift for a family member. The ECO Club will support the event by wrapping gifts. Students will also take part in a “Countdown to Christmas” Spirit Week featuring various festive activities and themed days leading up to the holidays. The season will wrap up with a school concert on Friday, December 19th, bringing students, staff, and families together to celebrate the season.

Central Manitoulin Public School
Throughout the month of December, staff and students will celebrate diversity by sharing and celebrating various holiday traditions. On Tuesday, December 16th, staff and students will join together at Santa’s Workshop. A variety of events will be held at the school from 6 pm to 7:30 pm including a Reduce/Reuse/Rejoice Toy Market, winter clothing giveaway, STEM challenge, hot chocolate, Christmas Karaoke, Christmas ornaments, and Christmas card making. This magical evening will culminate with a holiday story.

Chelmsford Valley District Composite School
With jingle bells and festive cheer, Chelmsford Valley District Composite School is celebrating this special time of year. Throughout December, students and families will enjoy various seasonal events including a school-wide Door Decorating Day on Monday, December 8th, a holiday feast on Wednesday, December 10th and a Hot Chocolate Day on Monday, December 15th. The Kindergarten to Grade 6 Christmas Concert will take place on Wednesday, December 17th at 11:45 am, and the secondary Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 18th at 12:30 pm. The celebration will wrap-up with Elementary Bingo on Friday, December 19th.

Churchill Public School
In the spirit of caring and kindness, Churchill Public School students will take part in the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. In the lead up to the holidays, students will enjoy spirit days including Red and Green Day, Holiday Character Wear Day, Channel your Flannel Day and Pyjama Day. Student Parliament will sell candy cane grams with proceeds supporting the food drive. The choir and drumming groups, along with several classes, will perform at a Holiday Concert on Wednesday, December 17th at 12 pm. Kindergarten families are welcome to the school for a holiday performance in the gym on Thursday, December 11th at 12 pm followed by a family mingle.

Lansdowne Public School
Staff and students from Lansdowne Public School are excited to celebrate the holiday season with various festive activities, including making cards and placemats for local seniors, holiday door decorating, and Candy Grams sold by the 29er Kindness Crew. The entire school will proudly take part in the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive by selling bubble gum to raise funds. Students are encouraged to bring a dollar or a non-perishable food item to the holiday dance. Students will enjoy the annual Holiday Extravaganza on Wednesday, December 10th, a pancake breakfast with a surprise visit from Santa on Friday, December 12th, and carols in the gym during the week of Monday, December 15th. A Holiday Concert for families will take place on Tuesday, December 16th followed by school-wide Holiday Bingo and a festive dance on Thursday, December 18th. The festivities will conclude with a pyjama and movie day on Friday, December 19th. Students will receive a breakfast kit from Metro to bring home for the holidays.

Larchwood Public School
Larchwood Public School kicked off the season with a food drive on December 1st. Candy grams will be sold and various spirit days will take place in support of the annual Falls Canned Food Drive. Students will take part in kindness projects, including making cards for seniors in long-term care. The Choir will also perform at the Dowling Leisure Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, December 13th. The last week before the holidays will include a school-wide trip to Dynamic Earth on Wednesday, December 17th, a pancake breakfast on Thursday, December 18th, and sing-a-long on Friday, December 19th. The Holiday Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 16th at 1:35 pm.

Lasalle Secondary School
Throughout the month of December, Lasalle Secondary School will celebrate with a series of festive events to spread the joy of the season including door decorating, a festive candy jar guessing game, Christmas logo contest, cookie decorating, Hot Chocolate Day, a gingerbread house contest, a Holiday Hobby Guessing Game, Pancake and Pyjama Day, Selfies with Santa, Holiday Wear Day, an Ugly Sweater Contest, and Festive Holiday Wear Day. A Holiday Concert and a school-wide sing-along will also take place.

Levack Public School
Levack Public School has a variety of exciting activities happening in December. Leading up to the holidays, students, staff and families will participate in a variety of holiday cheer activities such as Breakfast with Santa, door decorating and ornament making. The school will also take part in the local food drive “Falls Foods”. During a special assembly, staff will take part in “Minute to Win It” challenges for students to enjoy based on the number of donations received. Students visited the Holiday Train at its stop in Cartier to support the local food drive. A special thank you to the Knights of Columbus for funding transportation to and from the event. The festive concert will take place on Monday, December 15th in a showcase of student talent.

Little Current Public School
Little Current Public School invites families to a Community Holiday Open House on Wednesday, December 10th from 5 pm to 7 pm. Families will enjoy many activities including a free “kids only” shopping spree, Just Dance, crafts, cookie decorating, beading, card making, a visit with Santa, and a food drive for Manitoulin Family Resources. All activities were graciously arranged by community partners. Leading up to the holidays, students and staff are invited to take part in theme days including pyjama day on Friday, December 19th.

Lockerby Composite School
Staff and students at Lockerby Composite School are collecting monetary donations and non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. The Viking Community has also partnered with Better Beginnings Better Futures to ‘Adopt-A-Family’ in support of those in need this holiday season. In the lead up to the winter break, Lockerby’s Student Council will host 12 holiday-themed spirit days including candy cane day, pyjama day, ugly sweater day and more. Some English classes will take part in Operation Christmas Cards with Lockerby Legion Branch #564. The music department will present a Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 11th in the auditorium featuring the Lockerby Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Grade 9 Class Acts and the Junior and Senior Concert Bands.

MacLeod Public School
Throughout December, staff and students from MacLeod Public School will participate in the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. The kick off assembly took place on December 1st where the school proudly accepted the Olympic torch for collecting the most donations last year. This will be the eighth year that MacLeod has received the torch. Proceeds from the school-wide bake sale on Tuesday, December 9th will support the Sudbury Food Bank. Kindness initiatives abound with holiday letters to veterans around the world, carolling at the local seniors’ residence, and making holiday hampers for families. On Thursday, December 18th and Friday, December 19th, the school will host its annual Christmas sing-along in the gym from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. All parents/guardians and grandparents are welcome to attend.

Manitoulin Secondary School
Students at Manitoulin Secondary School will ring in the holidays with door decorating and a talent show showcasing performances by talented music students. Students will enjoy the 12 Days of Christmas countdown with Kahoot, free hot chocolate, karaoke, holiday trivia, a Headstrong bake exchange, cookie decorating, ugly sweater day, movies and open gym on Friday, December 19th.

Markstay Public School
Markstay Public School will kick off the holiday season with the Markstay Food Drive assembly. Staff, students and community members participated in the Markstay Santa Claus Parade on November 29th. Staff, students and parents will join the Markstay-Warren Fire Department for a “Walk of Caring” to hand deliver non-perishable food items to the Markstay Food Bank. Students will showcase their creativity for the door decorating contest amongst classes. Friends and family are welcome to the school’s Holiday Concert on Monday, December 15th in the school gym. Students will enjoy a holiday feast on Tuesday, December 16th and a pancake breakfast on Wednesday, December 17th. The holiday season will wrap-up with a holiday dance on Thursday, December 18th and a pyjama and movie day on Friday, December 19th.

Northeastern Elementary School
Northeastern Elementary School will host a variety of holiday-themed events throughout December including a kick-off assembly for the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. The Family Food Drive Night took place on December 4th. Families were invited to bring in food items and monetary donations and enjoy a warm bowl of chili. In the lead-up to the holiday break, students are welcome to take part in daily activities such as Holiday Bingo, Door Decorating, and a Holly Jolly Staff vs. Student Volleyball Game. Students will dress up in festive attire, including festive sweaters, Christmas accessories and pyjamas. On Wednesday, December 17th, the school will host a Festive Feast for students to join together and celebrate the holidays. On Friday, December 19th, students will enjoy a pancake breakfast with a special visit from Santa.

Princess Anne Public School
In the spirit of kindness, Princess Anne Public School is collecting non-perishable food items for the Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive. Grade 7 and 8 students will canvass the school neighbourhood on Monday, December 8th. Families are invited to attend the Winter Concert on Monday, December 15th at 12 pm which features Kindergarten classes, the Choir, Recorder Ensemble and Jazz and Concert Bands. The festivities will wrap-up with a holiday luncheon for staff and students on Wednesday, December 17th, and a pyjama day on Friday, December 19th. Students will receive a breakfast kit from Metro to bring home for the holidays.

R.L. Beattie Public School
R.L. Beattie Public School is buzzing with holiday kindness as students prepare care packages for those in need. The entire school community will also contribute to the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive led by the school’s Kindness Club. Throughout December, families are welcome to their child’s classroom for songs, crafts, cozy book reading and other festive activities. Some Kindergarten classes will create cards to share with local long-term care residents with help from secondary students from Lo-Ellen Park. Other classes will spread holiday cheer during a visit at Extendicare Countryside. The R.L. Beattie School Council will add to the excitement with the first ever Holiday Café, with treats, warm drinks, a family photo area, live music, and a performance by the School Choir.

Redwood Acres Public School
The entire Redwood Acres Public School community will collect non-perishable food items in support of the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. The school will host the annual turkey feast on Thursday, December 11th. A festive concert will take place on Wednesday, December 17th with performances in the morning and afternoon. Students and staff are invited to take part in school-wide activities including holiday door decorating, a festive wear day, and a cozy pyjama day. A school-wide sing-along in the gym will spread holiday cheer on Friday, December 19th.

Sudbury Secondary School
Sudbury Secondary School students will enjoy various theme days throughout the month including holiday sweaters, holidays socks and crocs, red and green, holiday bells and pyjamas, a pancake breakfast, festive bling, tropical attire, plaid, North Pole characters, holiday hats, and a “Wear-It-All” Day where students are welcome to wear all things festive. Staff and students will join together on Thursday, December 18th for a magnificent holiday feast complete with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, stuffing, and homemade sugar and gingerbread cookies baked by Ms. Doiron and students in hospitality classes. This event is a spectacular showcase of North Star spirit that allows students from a number of classes and clubs to share in the joy and wonder of the festive season. This year’s feast will bring together over 800 students and staff from Sudbury Secondary School, Adult Day School, Princess Anne Public School, Lansdowne Public School and N’Swakamok Anishnawbek Kinomaadwin Gamig N’Swakamok Alternative School. The event is made possible through the generosity of sponsors and staff volunteers. The Student Parliament will host the annual door decorating contest, a long-standing tradition that makes the hallways come to life with Christmas spirit. Students will once again work with community outreach organizations to provide warm clothes and snacks in support of school families and the downtown community. The greatest “Holiday Assembly” talent show will take place on Friday, December 19th, which will end with a fun-filled staff skit to kick off the holidays.

Walden Public School
The Walden community has been busy giving back this season through a variety of initiatives including an outstanding response to the “Giving Tree”. Families were invited to take a tag off the giving tree and purchase the item to give back to families in the school community. Giving will continue as students walk to the local food bank and help fill the shelves with non-perishable food items and donations for the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. The entire school community will join together on Tuesday, December 16th for the Cookies, Carols, and Gingerbread Joy Holiday Concert. Friday, December 19th will begin with a school-wide pancake breakfast followed by a snuggle/reading session with family.

Westmount Avenue Public School
Westmount Avenue Public School students are in for a whirlwind of festive fun in the lead up to the winter break, including pyjamas and pancakes, dress your educators like Christmas trees, gingerbread cookie making in the Learning Kitchen, a door decorating contest, holiday sweater day, caroling, as well as cookies and stories with Olaf. The highlights of the month will be Giving Tuesday, where classes will create art as a gift to another class. Students will also share a meal with families during the annual Holiday Feast. Generously supported by our community and School Council, the feast brings families together to showcase student development in communication and life skills. Students will leave the feast with new skills and tools they can use over the holiday season.
