Festive Events in Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin

A.B. Ellis Public School
Junior students at A.B. Ellis Public School will present the drama production "A Christmas Carol" on Thursday, December 11th. There will be a matinée dress rehearsal for the entire school at 1:45 pm, followed by an evening performance at 7 pm.   The community is welcome to both presentations.

A.B. Ellis Public School will host a concert and assembly on Thursday, December 18th at 1 pm in the school gym. On Friday, December 19th at 9 am, the entire school will participate in a sing-along. The public is welcome to attend.


Adamsdale Public School

Adamsdale Public School will celebrate the holiday season with the theme Home for the Holidays. Concerts will be presented on Thursday, December 11th at 1:45 pm and 6 pm. Parents/guardians and other family members are encouraged to attend the afternoon performance, where possible, to maximize space in the gym in the evening. Supervision for students will be provided in the evening in respective classrooms.


Assiginack Public School

Assiginack Public School will host a canned food drive from December 8th to 12th.  The school’s Christmas Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 16th at 7 pm. There will be a silver collection. Everyone is invited.


Carl A. Nesbitt Public School

Melting ice caps, global warming, surfing reindeer, solar panels, LED lightbulbs, new power sources! The North Pole is going green this year and everyone is excited – everyone, that is, except Santa who likes things just the way they are!  The talented students of Carl A. Nesbitt Public School will perform the musical "Santa Goes Green" on Thursday, December 18th.  Performances will take place at 9:30 am and noon.


Central Manitoulin Public School

Central Manitoulin Public School will host a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, December 6th from 9 am to 11 am.  Everyone is welcome to come out and support the school. The breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, coffee, tea, and juice.  Cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children. Children three years and under are free.

On Wednesday, December 17th, Central Manitoulin Public School will host a Christmas Concert at 7 pm in the gymnasium. Everyone is welcome.


Chelmsford Public School

Chelmsford Public School will host a family sing-along on Wednesday, December 10th at 6:30 pm.  This event will feature the choir, guitar club and special guest Rob Murphy.  Everyone is welcome. The choir and guitar club will perform at the Place Bonaventure Mall on Tuesday, December 16th at 1:20 pm. The Chelmsford Public School students will also celebrate the holiday season with a "Blast from the Past".  The entire school will present concerts on Wednesday, December 17th and Thursday, December 18th from 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm on both days.  Non-perishable food donations would be appreciated.


Copper Cliff Public School

Copper Cliff Public School will host its annual concert on Thursday, December 11th at 6:30 pm in the gym.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  There is no admission, but a non-perishable food item for the Food Bank would be appreciated.  A new addition to the concert this year is the Copper Cliff Public School Hand Chime Choir.  On Friday, December 19th, the entire school will participate in a Christmas sing-along in the gym.


C.R. Judd Public School

C.R. Judd Public School invites the community to its Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 12th at 6:30 pm in the gymnasium.  A matinée will take place at 1:30 pm for those unable to attend the evening performance.  Admission is a canned food item for the Christmas hampers put together by the Lions Club.  The school will be selling tickets for its basket raffle, with winners drawn at the concert.  Everyone is welcome to share the Christmas spirit with staff and students of C.R. Judd Public School.


Cyril Varney Public School

Cyril Varney Public School will celebrate a Very Varney Christmas on Wednesday, December 17th with an afternoon performance at 1:30 pm and an evening performance at 5:30 pm.


Ernie Checkeris Public School

The Checkeris Beavers SK to Grade 3 students will sing their little hearts away en français as they welcome the Christmas season.  Parents and guests are welcome to attend the Westmount Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 16th from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm and Wednesday, December 17th from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm.


Gatchell School

Gatchell School will host a concert and sing-along on Friday, December 19th at 1 pm. Family and friends are invited to join the school for this event. Cookies, baked by the students, will be served.


Jessie Hamilton Public School

Going Green? Recycling? Turning down the heat? Change? Who asked for all this change, especially at Christmas? Join the Primary students at Jessie Hamilton Public School on Tuesday, December 16th as they show Grandma that change can be good and we can still hold onto our memories and traditions. Take a walk through ‘The Christmas Family Album’. The matinée begins at 1:45 pm and the evening performance begins at 6:30 pm.

The Junior classes will present a performance entitled “Santa’s Rockin’ Christmas Eve" on Thursday, December 18th. It will be a fun-filled musical presentation. Come join Swingle, Winter, and the rest of the television crew as they wait for Santa to arrive! The matinée begins at 1:45 pm and the evening performance starts at 6:30 pm.

Students at Jessie Hamilton Public School are also taking part in the "Kids Helping Kids Campaign", collecting non-perishable food items for the Walden Food Bank until December 12th.


Lansdowne Public School

Lansdowne Public School will celebrate the holiday season with two concerts. The first concert will be presented on Tuesday, December 16th. The second concert will be presented on Wednesday, December 17th. Both concerts will take place from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm and will feature students in JK to Grade 8.  Parents/guardians are welcome to attend.   Students will also participate in a food drive for the Neighbourhood Action Project of Sudbury.   Students will collect non-perishable goods until December 19th.


Larchwood Public School

Larchwood Public School will participate in a Food Drive and Mitten Tree from December 1st to 18th. The annual Larchwood Public School Christmas Tea will take place Sunday, December 7th from noon to 3 pm and all are welcome to come for refreshments, games, a penny table, prizes and much more! 

From December 15th to 19th, friends and family are invited to join students and staff for their traditional carol sing taking place in the gym each day. Please contact the school for a schedule. Larchwood Public School will present the play "Santa Goes Green" on Thursday, December 18th with a matinée at 1:30 pm and evening performance at 7 pm.  All are welcome.  Admission is a canned food item with proceeds going to the local food bank.


Levack Public School

Levack Public School will host a Primary Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 17th at 1:35 pm. All parents are welcome.


Lasalle Secondary School

Lasalle Secondary School’s Arts Department will showcase talent in the areas of visual arts, drama and music with this year’s Winter MADness event. There will be a performance on Monday, December 8th and Tuesday, December 9th at 7 pm in the school gym.  Tickets are $5 for students and seniors ($7 for a two night pass) and $7 for adults ($10 for a two night pass).  Winter MADness will showcase artwork, the concert and jazz bands, the vocal and guitar ensembles, the Improv Team and a drumming circle.


MacLeod Public School

The MacLeod Mustangs continue to Pay It Forward throughout the month of December by once again supporting the Sudbury Food Bank. Mustangs are modeling the character trait generosity by collecting non-perishable food items and by supporting the Food Bank’s Christmas Card Campaign. The season tops off with spectacular Christmas concerts on Tuesday, December 16th at 6:30 pm in the main gym (Grades 3 to 6) and on Wednesday, December 17th at 12:30 pm and 6 pm in the annex gym (JK to Grade 2). There is no charge for the concerts and the public is welcome to attend.


Manitoulin Secondary School

Manitoulin Secondary School will hold its 39th Annual Awards Night on Thursday, December 18th at 7:30 pm.  During this evening of celebration, Manitoulin Secondary School graduates receive over $48,000 in monetary awards – all donated by the school’s generous community.  Everyone is welcome to attend.


Markstay Public School

Markstay Public School will host its annual winter concert on Tuesday, December 16th at 1 pm.  This year’s theme is ‘Celebrations Around the World’.  Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy the talents of the students.  There will be baking and homemade chocolates for sale.


Monetville Public School

Monetville Public School will celebrate the holiday season starting with the annual French River Lions Club Canned Food Drive from December 3rd to 12th.  A representative group of students will participate in the Noelville Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 13th and the Monetville Public School Eagle Christmas Concert will take place on Thursday, December 19th at 1 pm. Everyone from the French River Community is welcome to join staff and students to enjoy the holiday gifts of caring and kindness. The only fee for the concert is a canned or non-perishable food item. There will be a bake sale following the concert as well as a draw for poinsettia plants.


Northeastern Elementary School

Northeastern Elementary School will host a Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 17th at 11 am in the school gymnasium.  The JK to Grade 3/4 classes will perform festive pieces in honour of the holiday season.  Parents and relatives are invited to enjoy the festive performances.

The French Immersion Grades 4 to 8 students will enjoy a Christmas Luncheon in the school cafeteria at 12:30 pm on Thursday, December 18th.  Parents are welcome to come and enjoy lunch on this day with their children.

The Regular Program Grades 4 to 8 students will participate in various festive activities within their classrooms.  Parents are welcome to join in.

The Grades 4 and 6A classes will participate in gingerbread house building in the school cafeteria on Tuesday, December 16th beginning at 11:15 am.  The parents of these two classes are welcome to join their children in this activity.  These classes (Grades 4 and 6A) will also travel to senior citizen homes for Christmas caroling on Thursday, December 18th beginning at 9 am.

On Friday, December 12th, all SK to Grade 4/5 students will enjoy a Holiday Skating Show at the Garson Arena at 1 pm.  Students are asked to bring a non-perishable food item in support of the school’s local food bank.


Pinecrest Public School

The students at Pinecrest Public School collected 32 shoeboxes filled with small gift items that will be shipped to families oversees. Through a food drive, the students also collected 1,010 canned items for the St. Vincent de Paul society in Val Caron. The Pinecrest Public School Christmas talent show will take place on Thursday, December 18th at 9:30 am. Everyone is welcome to attend.


Redwood Acres Public School

Redwood Acres Public School will present the Christmas Concert Musical called Survival Santa, written by Denise Gagne.  Each grade level will present a featured song in the musical. The Grade 5 students will act.  The musical will be presented on Tuesday, December 16th from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm and Wednesday, December 17th from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.  Redwood Acres will also host a canned food drive.  All parents are invited to ask their children to choose a canned product to donate, a wonderful way to get children involved and build understanding for the true meaning of Christmas.


R. L. Beattie Public School

R. L. Beattie Public School began celebrating the holiday season with its Intermediate Band, under the expert direction of Cindy Belanger, marching in the Sudbury Santa Claus Parade. The support of Blue Saints and the Royal Canadian Legion was greatly appreciated. The entire school was treated to an outdoor marching demonstration by the band on School Spirit Day, Thursday, November 27th.

R.L. Beattie Public School’s annual Food Drive will take place from December 1st to 17th, with items being donated to the Neighbourhood Action Project of Sudbury’s Christmas Food Hamper Program.

Santa will visit Primary students on Monday, December 15th.

R.L. Beattie’s Christmas Concert, “Company Is Coming”, will take place on Wednesday, December 17th with performances at 9:30 am and 1 pm.  Families are also welcome to attend the dress rehearsal on Tuesday, December 16th at 9:30 am.  Admission is a non-perishable food item.

In lieu of gifts for teachers, staff has requested the purchase of Food Bank gift cards. It is the sincere hope of staff and students at R. L. Beattie Public School that they can make Christmas merrier for those less fortunate in the community.


R.H. Murray Public School

R.H. Murray Public School will host a Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 11th, with a matinée at 1 pm and evening performance at 6 pm. Cost of admission is a donation of canned food or any dry good. Everyone is welcome.

Sudbury Secondary School
Sudbury Secondary School will present Music ‘n Motion – An Evening of Dance and Seasonal Music on Friday, December 12th, 2008. Everyone is invited to enjoy an evening of Christmas spirit with the students and staff of Sudbury Secondary School’s music and dance programs. Music ‘n Motion will highlight the talent of vocal and instrumental music students and will feature original choreography and the breathtaking beauty of dancers. Showtime is 7:30 pm in the Sheridan Auditorium at Sudbury Secondary School, 85 Mackenzie Street. Tickets, at $8 for students and seniors and $12 for adults, are available at the door.


Valley View Public School

Valley View Public School will present its annual Holiday Concert on Wednesday, December 17th.  Students will perform at 9:30 am and 12:45 pm.  The entire Valley View community is invited to attend.


Wanup Public School

Wanup Public School’s annual Festival of Lights and bake sale will be held on Wednesday, December 10th at 6:30 p.m.  Everyone is welcome.

Wembley Public School

Wembley Public School will host its annual Christmas concert "A Green Christmas". The theme is sustainability. Decorations will be made from recycled material. The concert program will be posted instead of printing individual programs. Acts will focus on Go Green and Sustainability.  There will be two performances – Tuesday, December 16th from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm and 6 pm to 7:15 pm.

Wembley Public School is also hosting a canned food drive the entire month of December.  Items collected will be donated to the local food bank. On Friday, December 19th, the entire school will gather in the gym for carol singing.


Webbwood Public School

In keeping with the Rainbow District School Board’s focus on education for sustainable development, Webbwood Public School will present the holiday musical "Santa Goes Green". Melting ice caps, global warming, surfing reindeer!  The North Pole is going green this year and everyone is excited – everyone, that is, except Santa who likes things just the way they are!  Solar panels, LED light bulbs, new power sources?  Sounds a bit inconvenient to him. Mrs. Claus, the elves, toys, and reindeer have their hands full to convince him that education for sustainable development is the way to go! “Santa Goes Green” will be presented on Wednesday, December 10th in the Webbwood Public School gym at 1:45 pm and 6:30 pm. There will be a silver collection at the door.

Also at Webbwood Public School, there will be a canned food drive December 1st to 12th. Breakfast with Santa will take place on Saturday, December 6th from 9 am to 11 am in the Webbwood Public School gym. Children are invited to come for breakfast and get a free picture with Santa.  Cost is $5 per person. Tickets must be purchased by Friday, December 5th through the school office. The parent group will host a craft day on Wednesday, December 17th, all day, in the school gym. The Webbwood Public School Choir will sing at the Old Vault Restaurant from 11 am to 1 pm on Thursday, December 18th.


Westmount Public School

The Westmount Wizards will begin the festive season with Christmas Concerts on Tuesday, December 16th from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm and Wednesday, December 17th from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. Parents and guests will enjoy the little voices of SK to Grade 3 French Immersion students, en français!
