Festive Events in Rainbow Schools

A.B. Ellis Public School
In the morning of Wednesday, December 3, 2014, A.B. Ellis Public School’s Intermediate students visited local neighbours to collect non-perishable food items. All items will be donated to local food banks to help families in need.

Students from ELK to Grade 8 will enjoy Breakfast with Santa on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 9 am. The Espanola Rivermen will make a special appearance to help serve the meal. ELK to Grade 3 students will have the opportunity to take their picture with Santa.

On Thursday, December 18, 2014, at 5:30 pm, ELK to Grade 8 students will participate in a Christmas concert. Family members are welcome to attend.

Adamsdale Public School
On Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 5:30 pm, Adamsdale Public School will host its annual Christmas concert in the school gym. (In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 5:30 pm.)

On Tuesday, December 16 and Thursday, December 18, 2014, students and staff will gather for Christmas sing-alongs in the school gym. Parents/guardians and relatives are welcome to join in.

Alexander Public School
Alexander Public school is inviting parents/guardians and family members to enjoy a concert, “Un Festival de Paix”.  Classes from ELK to Grade 8 will perform a variety of holiday favourites.  Students will also be sharing a message of “Paying it Forward”. Performances will take place on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 1:40 pm to 2:40 pm, and Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 11:25 am to 12:55 pm.  Non-perishable food items will be collected as admission in support of the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. There will also be a basket raffle. Please note: Parents/guardians who attend the afternoon concert are asked not to park in the bus loading zone.

Algonquin Road Public School
Family and friends are invited to Algonquin Road Public School’s Christmas concert on Monday, December 15, 2014 at noon in the school gym. Students from ELK to Grade 5 will perform. (In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at noon.)

Algonquin Road Public School will also host a holiday concert on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 2 pm in the school gym. The concert will feature the school choir, band and special guests. Admission is a non-perishable food item.

Assiginack Public School
Assiginack Public School will participate in a “Kids Helping Kids” canned and dry food/gift/donation drive until December 12, 2014. Canned foods and dry goods, new toys, gifts for teens and donations will be accepted for the Manitoulin Family Resources Help Centre Food Bank to support Christmas Food/Gift Baskets for families on Manitoulin Island and the North Shore.

Assiginack Public School will design community Christmas ornaments and decorate a community tree. Intermediate students will lead classes in this activity the week of December 15th. Assiginack Township has donated ornaments for each student to decorate.

All grades will present a festive show to embrace the holiday spirit at the Christmas Concert in the Assiginack gymnasium on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 6:30 pm.

Everyone is invited to get in the spirit with a Christmas carol sing-along on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 2 pm in the gymnasium.

Carl A. Nesbitt Public School
The public is welcome to attend Carl A. Nesbitt Public School’s Christmas Time Machine, where classes will perform a variety of holiday favourites from past decades.  Performances will take place on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 9 am and 11:30 am. Non-perishable food items will be collected as admission in support of the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.

Central Manitoulin Public School
Central Manitoulin Public School will accept both monetary donations and non-perishable food items as part of the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive to support Manitoulin Family Resources’ Annual Christmas Hamper Drive.  The Central Manitoulin Public Schol Christmas concert will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 6:30 pm in the gymnasium.  The annual Christmas sing-along will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 12:30 pm.  Everyone is welcome to join the festivities.

Charles C. McLean Public School
Charles C. McLean Public School will collect non-perishable food until Friday, December 12, 2014. The school’s annual holiday sing-along will take place at 9 am on Friday, December 19, 2014 in the school gym. The public is welcome to attend.

Chelmsford Public School
Chelmsford Public School kicks off the festive season with its Kids Helping Kids Food Drive on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014 from 3 pm to 8 pm. KICX FM country radio will be at the school live supporting the event along with students and staff.

The Chelmsford Public School choir will perform at the CTV Lion’s Christmas Telethon on December 6th, 2014.  To raise money for this event, the choir has been traveling throughout the Chelmsford area delivering carol-o-grams.

Chelmsford Public School will host its Christmas Feast on Tuesday, December 16th, 2014. All students and some special guests will enjoy a full turkey dinner.  A Christmas Concert will be held at the school on Wednesday, December 17th, 2014 at 9 am and 11:30 am.

Churchill Public School
Churchill Public School will participate in the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive until Friday, December 12, 2014. Staff and students will canvass the local neighbourhood on Wednesday, December 3, 2014. Once all donations have been collected, classes will build canned food pyramids in the gym on Friday, December 12, 2014.

The residents of Lasalle Residence and the pediatric patients at Health Sciences North will receive holiday greeting cards designed by students.

The public is welcome to attend Churchill Public School’s Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 11 am and 6 pm. The theme will be “Caroling Through the Years.” Classes will present a selection of carols from a variety of decades, including traditional, rock and pop versions. Student Parliament will host a pancake breakfast and pajama day for staff and students on Friday, December 19, 2014.

Copper Cliff Public School
Copper Cliff Public School will host its annual concert on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 6:30 pm in the gym. The public is welcome to attend. Admission of a non-perishable food item would be appreciated.

C.R. Judd Public School
Family and friends are invited to C.R. Judd Public School’s Christmas concert on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 1:30 pm in the school gym. Students from ELK to Grade 8 will perform. (In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 1:30 pm.) Guests are invited to donate a canned food item for the food bank as admission to the concert. Students and staff have also prepared three themed baskets to raffle at $2 per ticket.

Cyril Varney Public School
Cyril Varney Public School will host their “Let it Snow” Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 1:30 pm and 6 pm. Non-perishable food donations in support of the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive would be appreciated.

Ernie Checkeris Public School

Lansdowne Public School
The Lansdowne Public School Holiday Concert will be held on Thursday, December 18th, 2014.  There will be two groups.  The first group of students will perform from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm.  The students in the second group will perform from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm.

Larchwood Public School
Larchwood Public School is participating in the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive in support of the Onaping Falls Food Bank until Friday, December 5, 2014.

Staff and students will host the annual Christmas Tea on Sunday, December 7, 2014 from 12 pm to 3 pm. The public is welcome to join in and enjoy refreshments, games, a penny table, prizes and more.

Staff and students will present the play, “A Jolly Little Dreamer: A Tour of Santa’s Village” on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 1 pm and again on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 1 pm and 6 pm. The public is welcome.

Levack Public School
On Wednesday, December 10, 2014, Junior students from Levack Public School will attend “Miracle on 34th Street” at the Sudbury Theatre Centre.

Staff and students will participate in red/green spirit day with skating at the Jim Coady Memorial Arena on Friday, December 12, 2014.

The school will host a Christmas sing-along on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 9:15 am in the school gym. The Levack Public School Rock Band will perform with the Choir in French and English. All parents are welcome. On Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 6 pm, a Christmas Dance will take place for students in Grades 6 to 8. Cost of entry is $3.

Little Current Public School
Little Current Public School will kick off the festive season with the Manitoulin Secondary School Band, who will perform a holiday concert for students and staff on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 1:30 pm in the school gym.

A Christmas concert will take place at 11:30 am and 6 pm on Thursday, December 18, 2014 in the school gym. On Friday, December 19, 2014, all students and staff will gather in the gym for a Christmas sing-along at 9 am.

Lively District Secondary School
Music students at Lively District Secondary School will perform for parents/guardians and community members at the Annual Christmas Music Concert on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 7 pm.  All proceeds from this concert will go to the Joan Mantle Music Trust.  Students from Walden elementary school will be invited to hear the Lively students perform during the morning on Thursday, December 18, 2014.  All staff and students from Lively District Secondary School will participate in a Festive assembly during the afternoon of Thursday, December 18, 2014.

MacLeod Public School
MacLeod Public School will once again support the Kids Helping Kids food drive until Friday, December 12, 2014. Students and parents/guardians have been invited to purchase “MacLeod on a Mission” gift cards for $5, with all proceeds donated to the Elgin Street Mission.

Primary concerts take place on Tuesday, December 16, 2014. The entire school will gather in the gym on Thursday, December 18 and Friday, December 19, 2014 for a Carol Sing-along. Parents/guardians are welcome.

Markstay Public School
Markstay Public School will host its annual winter concert on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 11:45 am. Non-perishable food items will gladly be accepted as admission in support of the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. The School Council will host a Christmas Basket Raffle. Tickets are $1 and proceeds will go towards improving school technology.

The public is welcome to attend a Christmas sing-along with Chuck Roberts on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at noon.

Monetville Public School
Monetville Public School will celebrate the holiday season by participating in the annual French River Lions Club Canned Food Drive until Monday, December 15, 2014.

On Friday, December 5, 2014, students will enjoy a pancake breakfast and visit with Santa.

The public is welcome to attend the Monetville Public School Winter Concert on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 1:15 pm. Students from ELK to Grade 8 will perform a variety of festive songs.

Northeastern Elementary School
Northeastern Elementary School will host a Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 9:30 am. Performances will showcase talent from the school choir, Mrs. Moxam’s class as well as students from ELK to Grade 3/4. Guests are encouraged to bring canned food items or cash donations to support the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.

The concert will be filmed and will be available for ordering prior to or the day of the concert. The concert videos will be available on Friday, December 19, 2014.

Pinecrest Public School
Pinecrest Public School will host their annual Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 6 pm. Guests will enjoy skits and songs performed by students as well as the school’s Concert Band and various clubs. There will be a special black light performance. Admission is one non-perishable food item to be donated to the Kids Helping Kids Canned Food Drive.

The Pinecrest Public School Concert Band will sing Christmas carols in the community, including at Redwood Acres Public School.

Princess Anne Public School
Princess Anne Public School will host its annual Christmas Concert at Sudbury Secondary School on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 6 pm.

On Friday, December 19, 2014, all students will enjoy a special pancake breakfast.

Queen Elizabeth II Public School
Queen Elizabeth II Public School will host an “Incredible Christmas Bazaar” on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 12:30 pm. A variety of activities will take place including cakewalks, penny tables and candy cane pulls.

Students will host their annual Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 11:45 am.

Redwood Acres Public School
Students at Redwood Acres Public School are participating in various classroom-based festive activities, including building candy houses, a Reading Buddies potluck luncheon, and Christmas crafts.  The school has adopted families who will receive Christmas baskets and gifts.

Redwood Acres Public School will present its Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm and Thursday, December 18, 2014 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.  Redwood Acres is also collecting food for the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.  All parents/guardians are invited to ask their children to choose a canned product to donate, a wonderful way to get children involved and build understanding for the true meaning of Christmas.

R.L. Beattie Public School
R.L. Beattie Public School will present its Holiday Concert on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10 am and 1 pm.  The theme is “Letters to Santa.” Non-perishable food items will be collected.

R.H. Murray Public School
The R.H. Murray Snowflake Choir will perform their holiday repertoire at the Beaver Lake Community Centre on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 1 pm, the Meadowbrook Retirement Village on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 1:30 pm, and the Anderson Farm on Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Staff and students will host a “Survival Santa” Christmas concert on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 1:30 pm. Guests will enjoy a penny table and bake sale. Cost of admission is one non-perishable food item. The public is welcome to attend.

Valley View Public School
Valley View Public School will present its annual Holiday Concert on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 for students in Grades 3 to 8. The first performance will be at 9:30 am and the second performance will be at 12:30 pm.  On Wednesday, December 17, 2014, ELK students will have cookies and milk with Santa and will enjoy a sing-along at 11:25 am.  Ami Allain will perform for the ELK and Grades 1 and 2 students at 1:45 pm.  On Thursday, December 18, 2014, parents/guardians are invited to join their children in Grades 1 and 2 for holiday activities and a sing-along at 1:45 pm.

Westmount Public School
The Westmount Wizards will kick-off the festive season with a Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 1:30 pm and Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 11 am. Guests will enjoy performances from students in ELK to Grade 2, en français.

Walden Public School
ELK classes at Walden Public School will perform their Christmas concert on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 9:30 am and 5:30 pm.

Primary students will host “The Sights and Sounds of Christmas” on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 10:10 am and 6:10 pm.

Following performances by the Ojibwe Hand Drum Group and the Glee Club, Junior students will present a musical based on students’ anticipating a ‘snow day’. Performances will take place on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 9:30 am and 6:30 pm.

Students will support the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive by participating in school-based competitions including a structure-building contest, where students will design and build structures using non-perishable food items. The contest theme is winter. The class to collect the most food items by Friday, December 12, 2014 will win a pizza party. Non-perishable food items will be collected until Wednesday, December 17, 2014.

Staff members encourage families to purchase a $5 Food Bank Gift Card in lieu of gifts. Each card will provide a meal for a person in need. It is the sincere hope of staff and students at Walden Public School that they can make a difference this Christmas for those less fortunate in the community.

Walden Public School’s Primary Choir and Glee Club will perform at Meadowbrook on Monday, December 8, 2014 and the Anderson Farm Museum’s 8th Annual Tree Lighting event on Saturday, December 13, 2014.

Barrydowne College
The Anglican Church of the Ascension will host “The Gifts of Story & Song” on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 7 pm, in support of Barrydowne College and the Elgin Street Mission. Storytellers will include Barrydowne College Principal Maureen McNamara, Gerry Lougheed Jr., Trish Hennessy, Markus Schwabe and many more. Tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased by calling 705-560-5069 or 705-566-2790.

Barrydowne College’s Food and Culture class will bake dessert for some 200 hungry and homeless for the Out of the Cold dinners which will take place on Friday, December 5, 2014 from 5 pm to 9 pm at the Church of the Epiphany on Larch Street. Community members generously donated the baking ingredients. Students will also help to serve dinner.

Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School
Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School will host their annual holiday concert on Wednesday, December 18, 2014 at 7 pm. Students in music programs will perform festive and classic rock tunes that are sure to get everyone in the holiday spirit. The Jazz, Concert and Jazz Combo will perform. Donations to the Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School music program will be greatly accepted. Non-perishable food item donations will also be accepted for the Sudbury Food Bank.

Manitoulin Secondary School
Manitoulin Island’s annual Island Schools Christmas Concert took place on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 7 pm. Seven elementary schools joined Manitoulin Secondary School musicians to deliver a wonderful evening filled with Christmas cheer to the community. Silver and canned food donations were greatly appreciated.

Manitoulin Secondary School will host the 45th Annual Awards Night on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 7:30 pm. Graduates will receive over $48,000 in monetary awards donated generously by the school community. The public is welcome.

N’Swakamok Native Alternative School
The N’Swakamok Native Alternative School will begin the holiday festivities with a Christmas Bazaar on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 11 am. The public is welcome to enjoy some holiday shopping.

N’Swakamok will also host a free family Christmas dance at the N’Swakamok Friendship Centre on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 6 pm. The evening will be filled with festive music and prizes for children of all ages.

Students will attend “Miracle on 34th Street” at the Sudbury Theatre Centre on Tuesday, December 9, 2014.

Students will prepare a meal for the N’Swakamok Friendship Centre’s annual Community Christmas Mass on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 5 pm at Christ the King. The public is welcome.

Sudbury Secondary School
Sudbury Secondary School and the Sudbury Secondary Adult Day School will celebrate the festive season with a holiday feast on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. The feast will be prepared by staff and served by community leaders. On Friday, December 19, 2014, the school will host its annual Christmas assembly.
