What’s happening in Rainbow Schools?
Finding your Way from Grade 8 to 9 on November 12
Parents/guardians and students in Grades 7 and 8 are invited to an interactive information session designed to help students make key decisions in the transition from elementary to secondary school. All students are welcome to participate along with their parents/guardians, regardless of which elementary school they currently attend.
Rainbow District School Board will present Making the Transition: Finding Your Way from 8 to 9 on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm in the Student Centre at Cambrian College, 1400 Barrydowne Road. There will be free parking on site in Lot # 15 next to the Student Centre.
“Transitioning from elementary to secondary school is a big step in a young person’s life,” says Norm Blaseg, Director of Education for Rainbow District School Board. “We encourage students and parents/guardians to take full advantage of this opportunity to learn about secondary school programs and school life. We are here to help students make informed decisions about their future and ensure student success.”
This free information session will focus on the changes, choices and challenges students face as they enter high school. A number of topics will be explored, including how to read timetables, how to choose courses and programs, how to ease into a new school environment, what resources are available, skills students need to be successful, and helpful tips. Information will be provided for all pathways – independent living, work, apprenticeship, college and university. In addition to a presentation, those who attend will be able to tour booths, talk to staff about programs such as Co-operative Education, and pick up a copy of the Rainbow District School Board’s Transition Guide for students and parents/guardians.
“It’s important that students take the time to explore all of their options,” says Director Blaseg. “Guidance staff will be on hand to answer any questions students and parents/guardians may have. Join us to explore the many exciting opportunities that await students in Grade 9.”
