Foodanse 2017: Rainbow Schools participate in innovative food drive challenge
Students at Lansdowne Public School, MacLeod Public School and Princess Anne Public School have pumped up the volume and busted some dance moves to challenge other schools to participate in the Edgar Burton Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.
The initiative, spearheaded by Lansdowne Public School, is called “Foodanse”, with food in English and dance in French, highlighting both English and French Immersion programs offered at the school.
To kick-start the challenge, the school hosted a coin campaign for the food drive.
A dance video was then produced to invite other schools to participate. Once schools accept the challenge, the cycle continues.
“The Foodanse challenge encourages generosity and global citizenship,” says Lansdowne Public School Principal Lisa Piquette. “It’s a fun, dynamic and meaningful way for staff and students to pay it forward this holiday season.”
The challenge will lead up to the fourth annual Rainbow Kids Helping Kids Day, which is part of the Rainbow District School Board’s efforts to support the Kids Helping Kids Christmas Food Drive in memory of Edgar Burton.
Many students in Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin will canvass their neighbourhoods for non-perishable food items for their local food banks on Thursday, November 30, 2017.
