French Immersion students participate in Franco-Synchro Rainbow competition
Close to 200 French Immersion students in Rainbow Schools will take centre stage to participate in their very first Franco-Synchro Rainbow competition. The lip sync contest with French songs will take place on Wednesday, March 31st from 10 am to 12:30 pm in the auditorium at Sudbury Secondary School.
Students in Grades 1 to 8 won the honour of competing in the Board-wide event by capturing first place at in-school competitions in primary, junior and intermediate divisions. Overall winners will be announced in three categories. There will also be a participation award in each division. Members of the Francophone community will judge the event.
“Franco-Synchro Rainbow is one of many activities that serve to promote the French culture among our French Immersion students,” says Jean Hanson, Director of Education for Rainbow District School Board. “Students not only explore French music, they also memorize French songs and hone their listening skills. In addition, they work in groups which emphasizes oral communication and team building skills.”
French Immersion, which provides a balance of English and French instruction in Rainbow Schools, immerses students in the French language including cultural experiences. The French Immersion program provides students with the skills they need to communicate in a second language, thereby enhancing their ability to perform effectively and meet with success in a rapidly changing global economy.
