Cambrian College, the Rainbow District School Board, and the Sudbury Catholic District School Board are hosting Get a Career – Make Education Your #1 Job this Year! an initiative designed to connect potential students with educational opportunities and to put them on a path towards a successful career.
Get a Career – Make Education Your #1 Job this Year! will be in area malls as follows,
New Sudbury Centre
Wednesday, August 20 and Thursday, August 21
9 a.m. – 9 p.m. (near The Body Shop)
Rainbow Centre
Friday, August 22
9 a.m. – 7 p.m. (near Rainbow Cinemas)
“Working together will enable us to recommend the best possible fit, whether it’s in secondary school or college,” says Cambrian College President Sylvia Barnard. “Having access to all of this information in one convenient location will make planning for the future an easy and stress free experience.”
“We want to help connect potential students with educational opportunities…to help them on a path towards a successful career,” adds Barnard.
Representatives from Cambrian College will be available to help individuals identify the best course of action for them, providing them with information on college admission, OSAP, upgrading, career counseling, second career opportunities, continuing education, and full-time programs.
Those missing high school credits will be able to learn about dual credit courses offered at Cambrian College, including Chef Training, Exploring Business, Automotive Service Technician, and Health Sciences. In these programs, credits earned are applied to both secondary school and college diplomas, enabling students to achieve their career goals that much faster.
Representatives from Rainbow Schools and Sudbury Catholic Schools will be available to provide information on secondary school initiatives, programs, and services including:
– Co-operative Education opportunities, which combines classroom instruction with workplace experience
– The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program, which gives students a head start in a career in the trades
– The new Specialist High Skills Major programs in four sectors – Mining, Arts and Culture, Business, and Health and Wellness (each major, a bundle of 6 to 12 courses in the selected field, enables students to learn on the job, gain hands-on experience, and earn valuable industry certifications)
– “More Ways to Help High School Students Succeed” brochure will be available
– Student Success Initiatives
– Correspondence courses
– Daycare availability
– Prior Learning Assessment programs
– E-Learning
“As we look ahead to the start of a new school year, now is the perfect time for individuals to resolve to get a career making education their no. 1 job this year,” says Barnard. “We invite everyone to visit the New Sudbury Centre and the Rainbow Centre to reconnect with education, the first step to a rewarding career.”
