Guide for Students and Parents contains important information

Students in Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin will receive a Guide for Students and Parents the first week of school.  The guide contains important information that will serve as a handy reference throughout the school year.

“As leaders in learning, we recognize that supportive parents/guardians are a key ingredient to a child’s success in school,” said Rainbow District School Board Chair Judy Hunda.  “By developing a strong link between school and home, the students, their teachers, and parents/guardians form a powerful partnership dedicated to maximizing a student’s potential inside and outside of the classroom.”

“The Guide for Students and Parents is a first step in our efforts to build two-way communication between the home, the school and the communities that we serve,” said Director of Education Jean Hanson. “Parental involvement improves student achievement.”

The Guide for Students and Parents features information about services, programs and policies, including the Code of Conduct, the inclement weather policy, and an anaphylaxis alert that talks about severe allergies to nut products.

The Guide also includes a directory of schools and key contacts, a calendar of school holidays, provincial assessments, professional activity days, secondary school examination days and open houses, as well as information about School Councils and opportunities to volunteer.

The Guide for Students and Parents is available online at www.rainbowschools.ca

Rainbow District School Board reminds parents/guardians and students that the first day of school is on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 – one day later than usual. As always, classes on the first day of school will end 30 minutes earlier.
