Students in Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin will receive a Guide for Students and Parents the first week of school. The guide contains important information that will serve as a handy reference throughout the school year.
“When educators and parents/guardians work together, they form a powerful partnership dedicated to ensuring that each and every student achieves his or her potential,” said Board Chair Judy Hunda. “The many community partners who support Rainbow Schools enhance what is taught in the classroom by giving students opportunities to gain hands-on experience and explore careers of interest. For this reason, we encourage parents/guardians to take an active interest in their child’s education and we invite community partners to help us mentor and nurture their future workforce.”
“Parents, as the first teachers in the home, are important partners in education,” added Director of Education Jean Hanson. “Parental involvement improves student achievement, so I invite parents/guardians to join with us as we enable students to maximize their potential and fulfill their aspirations. The Guide for Students and Parents is a first step in our efforts to build two-way communication between the home, the school and the communities that we serve.”
The Guide for Students and Parents features information about services, programs and policies, including the Code of Conduct, the inclement weather policy, and an anaphylaxis alert that talks about severe allergies to nut products.
The Guide also includes a directory of schools and key contacts, a calendar of school holidays, provincial assessments, professional activity days, secondary school examination days and open houses, as well as information about School Councils and opportunities to volunteer.
