Jack Talks: Community invited to focus on mental health on April 25th

Confederation Secondary School wants the community to be part of a conversation on mental health. The school will host a guest speaker from Jack.org on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 7 pm and all parents/guardians and students (ages 14 and up) are welcome to attend.

The free presentation will increase knowledge of mental health, including signs of distress and resources for help; equip adult audiences with tools to engage young people in conversations around their mental health; decrease silence and stigma around mental health in communities; and inspire audiences to become leaders for change in their communities.

Jack.org is the only national network of young leaders transforming the way we think about mental health. With initiatives and programs designed for young people, by young people, their goal is to end the stigma of mental health in their generation and increase the wellbeing of Canada’s young people.

Jack Talks trains young speakers to deliver engaging presentations to fight stigma and get people talking about mental health. By delivering vital information in a relatable way, and speaking openly from personal experiences, young speakers make an otherwise uncomfortable conversation comfortable. Audiences will leave feeling more knowledgeable and open to talking about mental health, which will create safer and more supportive environments.

When everyone knows how to recognize signs of distress, open up the conversation, and eliminate shame, we can create a world where nobody struggles in silence and everyone has access to the help they need.
