June 13: Chelmsford Public School hosts workshop for parents and teachers
Chelmsford Public School will host a workshop for parents and teachers on Monday, June 13, 2011. The workshop, about building relationships that help students succeed, will be offered from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Chelmsford Public School, 121 Charlotte Street.
Everyone is welcome to attend the free session and can contact the school at 705-671-5945 to register. Childcare will be available for children over four years of age. Light refreshments will also be provided.
In this lively workshop, participants will meet other parents and teachers in the community and share experiences in a fun and interactive setting. The Community Builders training team will introduce useful concepts to help adults strengthen their relationships with young people and help young people develop successful relationships with each other.
The workshop will explore a number of topics – how to increase young peoples’ self-esteem and resiliency, as an antidote to peer pressure that can make them vulnerable to societal dangers; how to help young people be “allies” who take pride in their own identities and respect others, and who stand up for peers who are facing bullying and discrimination; and how to listen effectively to young people and look for the underlying hurt in conflict situations.
Community Builders is a not-for-profit community agency that has been training parents, teachers and students in Sudbury schools since 1999. They lead Youth Leadership Institutes and workshops that bring together teams of elementary school students and adults from neighbouring schools over four years for in-depth leadership development.
