Kathy Wachnuk appointed Superintendent of Schools

Norm Blaseg, Director of Education for Rainbow District School Board, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kathy Wachnuk as Superintendent of Schools effective August 17, 2015.

Kathy Wachnuk has 22 years of experience with Rainbow District School Board as an elementary classroom teacher, Vice-Principal, Principal and Principal of Special Education in both the English and French Immersion Programs.

She is currently Senior Administrator for Special Education Programs and Services for Kindergarten to Grade 12. Her portfolio includes mental health, violence threat risk assessment and trauma response as well as educational programs at Cecil Facer Secondary School, Frank Flowers, the Ruth MacMillan Centre, Jean Hanson Public School, the Children’s Treatment Centre and the Shikagamik-Kwe Health Centre.

“With these positions of added responsibility at the school and system levels, Kathy Wachnuk is well prepared to assume her new leadership role,” said Director Blaseg. “Kathy Wachnuk is an educator who values and promotes student, staff, parent/guardian and community engagement for the success of all students. Her extensive experience working with local agencies has been of great benefit to our Board and our schools.”

“Human relationships and community relations are key in order to provide students with the best possible support in their education,” said Kathy Wachnuk. “My philosophy and practice include focused and sustained evidence-based approaches where student needs are at the forefront of any initiatives being implemented.”

She added: “I look forward to fostering a culture of trust and accountability where high standards are maintained. It is an honour for me to serve in public education. I welcome the opportunity to continue to contribute to the well-being of students across our family of schools.”

Kathy Wachnuk is a graduate of Rainbow Schools. She has a Master’s degree and a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University. She also has an Honours Bachelor of Arts from Laurentian University.
