Staff and students from Lansdowne Public School cycled their way to victory in the City of Greater Sudbury’s 2026 Bike to School Week Challenge.

Fourteen schools from across the city participated in the annual challenge that encourages students to find active ways to get to and from school including walking, cycling, scootering, skateboarding and other forms of active transportation.

Lansdowne Public School led the way, recording an impressive 592 active transportation trips – the highest total among all participating schools.

To ensure schools of all sizes had an equal opportunity to compete, participation rates were calculated based on student enrolment. With an outstanding rate of 25 per cent, Lansdowne Public School also earned the 2026 Active School Travel Trophy.

“We are incredibly proud of our students, staff and families for embracing the Bike to School Week Challenge with energy and enthusiasm,” said Principal Elisa McNeil. “This achievement reflects our school community’s commitment to staying active, supporting one another, and making healthy choices each and every day.”

She added: “The Active School Trophy is an honour, but the real success is seeing so many students staying active while having fun.”

C.R. Judd Public School was also recognized for its continued commitment to Bike to School Week, having participated annually since the program’s inception in 2023.
