Lasalle canvasses community to blaze trails for fitness at Finlandia

Students from Lasalle Secondary School will canvass the community on Thursday, September 19, 2019 to raise funds to blaze new trails for fitness at Finlandia Village.

Students will go door-to-door to visit neighbourhood residents from 4 pm to 9 pm to talk about their upcoming Family Walk fundraising event and invite them to make a donation.

The 4th annual Lasalle Secondary School SISU Family Walk in partnership with Sling-Choker will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2019. Leading the walk will be Greater Sudbury Police Chief Paul Pedersen and Head Coach of the Sudbury Five Logan Stutz.

Participants will gather at 11 am to embark on a six-kilometre journey from Lasalle Secondary School to Finlandia Village.

“At Lasalle Secondary School, we are committed to promoting lifelong health and wellness,” says Principal Maureen McNamara. “We also take pride in supporting our seniors and the community in which we live.”

She adds: “We invite everyone to come show their SISU and join us in our efforts by making a donation and/or participating in the walk.”

Funds raised will continue to support outdoor walking and fitness activities at Finlandia Village. A trail system has been developed and partially built, engaging students, local businesses and volunteers.

The fully accessible trails wind their way around the property. A portion of the trails are signed and future development includes self-directed exercise stops and additional outdoor equipment to enhance the physical benefits of exercise while enjoying the trails.

“On behalf of Lasalle Secondary School and Finlandia Village, we thank the community for its support as we join together to raise awareness about the health and wellness of our seniors,” says Principal McNamara. “Kiitos!”
