Lasalle canvasses community to blaze trails for fitness at Finlandia

LSS SISU

Students from Lasalle Secondary School will canvass the community on Thursday, September 27, 2018 to raise funds to blaze new trails for fitness at Finlandia Village.

Students will go door-to-door to visit neighbourhood residents from 3 pm to 9 pm to talk about their upcoming Family Walk fundraising event and invite them to make a donation.

The 3rd annual Lasalle Secondary School SISU Family Walk in partnership with Sling-Choker will take place on Saturday, September 29, 2018. Leading the walk will be Lasalle alumni and Olympic gold medalists Robert Esmie and Tessa Bonhomme.

Participants will gather at 11:15 am to embark on a six-kilometre journey from Lasalle Secondary School to Finlandia Village.

“At Lasalle Secondary School, we are committed to promoting lifelong health and wellness,” says Principal Maureen McNamara. “We also take pride in supporting our seniors and the community in which we live.”

She adds: “We invite everyone to come show their SISU and join us in our efforts by making a donation and/or participating in the walk.”

Funds raised will support outdoor walking and fitness activities at Finlandia Village. A trail system will be developed and built, engaging students, local businesses and volunteers.

The fully accessible trails will wind around the property and will be well equipped to maximize fitness outcomes for seniors. The trails will be signed and will include self-directed exercise stops to enhance physical benefits along the way.

“On behalf of Lasalle Secondary School and Finlandia Village, we thank the community for its support as we join together to raise awareness about the health and wellness of our seniors,” says Principal McNamara. “Kiitos!”
