Lasalle Secondary School hosts Lancer Girls’ Basketball Camp 2011

For the sixth year, Lasalle Secondary School will host a Girls’ Basketball Camp for interested females in Grades 5 to 8 who want to learn the game of basketball, improve their skills and have fun. 

The camp will run four evenings over four weeks with a total of eight hours of instruction, beginning Tuesday, April 26, 2011 and continuing on May 3, May 10 and May 17.  It will take place from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the Lancerdome.

A typical evening will include a group warm-up, ball handling, mass teaching session from guest coaches (for instance, on shooting, skill development, one-on-one skills and emphasis on basketball fundamentals), a scrimmage and cool down. 

The main doors of Lasalle Secondary School will be open by 6 pm each evening.  The cost is $65 due before April 26th and includes a t-shirt.  The first 60 paid participants will be accepted.  Please register early as the camp has been full every year.  All participants should bring a water bottle. 

Coaches include Mary Collinson, Shirlene McLean, Rod McHugh, Bruce Cowtan, Laura Thirkill, Trisha Taylor and Ashley Ojalammi from Lasalle Secondary School and Mike Clarke and Bill Gordon from Laurentian University.

Guest coaches include Jeff McKibbon, Maureen McNamara, Miranda Lehto and Amanda McDonald as well as Laurentian University players Lisa Furchner and Carley Blaseg; University of Vermont player Kristine Lalonde; Humber College player Alyssa Ferreira; Former Canadian National Team member and LU Vees player Chantal Schneider (St. Martin), the Lasalle City Championship Midget Team and the Lasalle Senior and Junior Girls’ Basketball Teams.
