Lasalle Secondary School hosts Lancer Girls’ Basketball Camp 2012

For the seventh year, Lasalle Secondary School will host a Girls’ Basketball Camp for interested girls in Grades 5 to 8 who want to learn the game of basketball, improve their skills, build their self-esteem, see great female role models and have FUN! 

The camp will run four evenings over four weeks with a total of eight hours of instruction, beginning Tuesday, April 24th, 2012 and continuing on May 1st, May 8th and May 15th.  It will take place from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the Lancerdome.

A typical evening will include a group warm-up, ball handling, mass teaching session from guest coaches (for instance, on shooting, skill development, one-on-one skills and emphasis on basketball fundamentals), a scrimmage and cool down. 

The main doors of Lasalle Secondary School will be open by 6 pm each evening.  The cost is $75 due before April 24th and includes a t-shirt.  The first 60 paid participants will be accepted.  Please register early as the camp has been full every year.  All participants should bring a water bottle. 

Coaches include Mary Collinson, Shirlene McLean, Rod McHugh, Lisa Furchner, Laura Thirkill and Ashley Ojalammi from Lasalle Secondary School.

Guest coaches include Mike Clarke and Bill Gordon from Laurentian University, Bruce Cowtan from Cambrian College, Jeff McKibbon, Maureen McNamara, Miranda Lehto as well as Laurentian University players Lisa Furchner, Carley Blaseg and Amanda McDonald; University of Vermont player Kristine Lalonde; Humber College player Alyssa Ferreira; Sault College player Laura Lehto, Cambrian College players Trisha Taylor and Faye Tomatuk, Former Canadian National Team member and LU Vees player Chantal Schneider (St. Martin), the Lasalle City and NOSSA Championship Junior Girls’ Basketball Team and the Lasalle Senior Girls’ Basketball Team.
