Lasalle Secondary School receives $20,000 technology grant from Samsung

Jeff McKibbon of Lasalle Secondary School was recognized as one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals by The Learning Partnership.

Canada’s Outstanding Principals, including Jeff McKibbon of Lasalle Secondary School, received a pleasant surprise at The Learning Partnership’s Awards Gala in Toronto on February 25, 2014. Technology Innovation Partner, Samsung Canada, announced that award winners would receive a $20,000 grant for their school.

“I was absolutely thrilled,” said Principal McKibbon. “Samsung Canada clearly recognizes the importance of technology in 21st Century learning. The donation will benefit our students and our school in all subject areas. We are so grateful for their generosity.”

In addition to receiving the award for his leadership and the grant for his school, Principal McKibbon attended a five-day executive training program at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. “It was a wonderful opportunity to learn among like-minded colleagues from across Canada,” he said. “I gained new perspectives and strategies that will enable me to continue to grow in my role as a school administrator for the benefit of students.”

Each year, The Learning Partnership recognizes 40 of the most remarkable Principals, representing all school boards from every province and territory across Canada. The selection is based on a range of criteria from student achievement, to instructional leadership, to professional learning teams, to partnerships with families and communities, to personal growth initiatives.

Jeff McKibbon joined Rainbow District School Board as a secondary school teacher in 1991. He was appointed Vice-Principal of Lasalle Secondary School in 1999 and, a year later, assumed the role of Principal of Levack District High School. He has been Principal of Confederation Secondary School, Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School and, most recently, Lasalle Secondary School where he has served since 2008.

Jeff McKibbon is President of the Rainbow District School Board Principals’ Council and is the Board’s representative on the Ontario Principals’ Council (OPC). He has been a provincial counselor on the OPC for six years. He has a Bachelor of Arts from Laurentian University, a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia and a Masters of Education from Nipissing University.
