Lasalle Secondary School student tops in Euclid math contest

A student from Lasalle Secondary School captured top honours in this year’s Euclid Mathematics Competition. Grade 12 students from across Canada wrote the test in April.

Na Liu (Wei Wei Beckerleg) scored first of 141 students in her zone and 51st out of more than 6,405 students in all of Ontario, earning a place on the Zone and Provincial Honour Rolls.

“Wei Wei was within the top 25 percentile in all of Canada,” said Lasalle Secondary School Principal Craig Runciman. “This is a tremendous achievement and we are certainly proud of her.”

With Na Liu (Wei Wei Beckerleg) leading the way, Lasalle Secondary School’s team placed highest in the entire zone, which extends from Sudbury to Wawa.

The team, comprised of the top three students’ scores combined, included Matt Baldisera as well as Dayna Peloquin and Vanessa Woods who tied for third.

“We congratulate the entire team on their impressive showing,” said Principal Runciman. “The win is a tribute to the math teachers at Lasalle Secondary School. This is another example of our staff’s commitment to student success.”
