Students and staff at Lasalle Secondary School have partnered with local six-year-old, Tayler Demontigny, in support of his initiative to raise funds to dig a well in a small village in Africa. On Friday, October 18, 2013 approximately 150 students and staff will participate in a Walk for Water, where they will carry large jugs of water down Lasalle Boulevard and Barrydowne Road.
To help Tayler reach his goal of $7,000, students raised funds over the past week. These funds will cover the cost of the digging and construction needed to provide clean, safe water efficiently and sustainably through Water Project Inc. The organization also mobilizes, trains, and follows-up with local communities to help ensure long-term success.
“This is a wonderful example of how our students at Lasalle Secondary School are acting locally, but thinking globally,” says Lasalle Secondary School Principal Jeff McKibbon. “Our students see that our basic necessities are not as accessible in other parts of the world. They are learning not to take for granted what we have and the importance of helping others gain access to these basic necessities.”
The Water Project Inc. is a non-profit organization that brings relief to communities around the world that do not have access to clean water.
