Lasalle Secondary School’s Spencer Allen wins two Gold medals at OFSAA

Spencer Allen of Lasalle Secondary School captured Gold medals in both
of his events at OFSAA this week – the 100 metre freestyle and the 50
metre freestyle.

An accomplished swimmer from Lasalle Secondary School has won top honours at the provincial level. Spencer Allen captured Gold medals in both of his events at OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) this week – the 100 metre freestyle and the 50 metre freestyle.  He was also a mere second away from breaking the fastest time for the 100 metre freestyle at OFSAA.

“We are very proud of Spencer Allen for his outstanding achievement,” said Lasalle Secondary School Principal Jeff McKibbon. “He is an energetic Grade 9 student with a great deal of potential and talent who impressed everyone, including all of us at Lasalle.”

Spencer Allen has been swimming for many years and spends a great deal of time in the pool training with Lasalle alumni Buddy Green, who is the school’s community coach for swimming. Spencer swam up a level to be able to qualify for OFSAA and will be in the Junior category for the next two years.

“Buddy Green has a great deal of experience and was able to work with Spencer to improve his strokes, starts and turns,” said Principal McKibbon. “We thank Coach Green for his support and guidance. Spencer’s success in the pool is his success as well.”

Lasalle Secondary School also thanks parent volunteer Corrine Cacciotti who travelled with the swim team to the provincial championships and served as team photographer, and Lockerby Composite School staff member Laura Stanyon who offered her knowledge and guidance. “Enabling students to compete at this level requires a team effort and we have a wonderful team with a great deal of camaraderie supporting student success,” said Principal McKibbon.

The provincial competition was held in Etobicoke on March 5th and 6th, 2013.
