Lasalle’s Calum Passi profiled in national running magazine
Calum Passi, a Grade 9 student in the Sport and Healthy Active Living (SHAL) Program at Lasalle Secondary School, is profiled in a national running magazine.
Passi will compete among the best high school runners in the province at the OFSAA track and field meet from June 7 to 9, 2018. He will run in the 1,500m and 3,000m race at York University.
“Qualifying for, and doing well at the meet is a big goal for many high school athletes,” says the article in Canada Running. “Many of Canada’s best track and road athletes like Justyn Knight and Andre De Grasse began their careers at OFSAA.”
Passi ran the 800m, 1,500m and 3,000m races at the City track meet and won all events, capturing the city boys midget aggregate. He also won Gold in all three events at NOSSA, again capturing the boys midget aggregate.
“Passi has only been running for a few months, but has already made a big impression on the high school running scene by finishing third at OFSAA cross-country in November of 2017,” said the article.
When asked: “If you could run in any race, what would it be?”
Calum answered: “For sure, the Olympics. It’s the pinnacle of track and field.”
“To have one of our SHAL students featured in a national magazine is very exciting,” says Maureen McNamara, Principal of Lasalle Secondary School. ““We are proud of Calum and wish him continued success on and off the track.”
