Tyler Makinen of Lively District Secondary School was selected to participate in the 2012 American High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York on Sunday, February 12, 2012.
Tyler will be playing his violin in the Honors Orchestra along with approximately 95 other finalists. Over five days in New York City, Tyler will rehearse, learn and perform under the direction of Honors Orchestra Conductor, Charles Peltz.
Tyler Makinen was nominated for the 2012 American High School Honors Performance Series by Lively District Secondary School music teacher Corinne Yantha.
The Honors Performance Series brings together talented high school instrumentalists and singers. The 2012 Series will showcase 450 selected high school musicians, representing 49 states, Canada, Nicaragua, South Africa and Thailand.
During the trip, Tyler, his music teacher and family will get to experience some of what New York City has to offer, including a Broadway show and a taping of "The Today Show." They will also visit the Rockefeller Plaza, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the NBC store, The Top of the Rock Observation Deck, Times Square, and the World Trade Center site.
“Tyler, his family and I are all very excited about this opportunity. We are looking forward to our time in New York City,” said Yantha.
